If life was a game
Could I win in the end?
And if I was sane
Would I fuck it up all over again?
These questions and answers
Can help me redefine myself
And I thank your open ears for all their help

No
More
Shame
Is what I see for myself
I need to change for my health
I need a better way of life for myself

If I stay the same
How long will I last?
Yet if I change
Will I still just be alone and typecast?
Professional answers
Can't help me to design myself
So I thank your open arms for all their help

No
More
Shame
Is what I see for myself
I need to change for my health
I need a better way of life for myself

Caressing gateways of the mind
(over matter through space as time)
Heals wounds inspiring gifts of light
(inside myself just need some time)
Just need some time to myself
To figure it out
Cause I've got no doubt
Then when my dreams come true
It's because of you
And the fact that I let you
(and I thank you)

No

No
More
Shame
Is what I see for myself
I need to change for my health
I need a better way of life for myself

Caressing gateways of our minds
(over matter through space as time)
Heals wounds inspiring gifts of light
(inside ourselves just need)
Time

I think they went through a big change. I mean, they're obviously still Taproot but I think that this song is so awesome and better than most of their older stuff.

alright. after listening to the stuiod recording of poem to self, the live vesrion, and pre-studio, and now myself, i have to say that i am utterly in awe at the metamoprhis taproot has gone under... they were awesome.. but now they're just... wow.. mind-blowing.

this song, like most others by taproot, really hit home espically regarding the "These questions and answers can help me redefine myself" and the "Professional answers cant help me to design myself" lines. i'm sure we're all a little f'ed up in the head... and personal experience has taught me that the only way to find the answers is to ask yourself the questions. not somebody with a note-pad & a predefined idea of whats "heatlhy" and not.

oh, and did anybody else have the problem with again & again poppin up in the middle of the mp3 thats floating around off the demo cd?

I think Again and Again popping up in the song, was a bit of a joke for the sampler.

I think it's about a person recovering from a hard time in their life, and then coming to realize that now that they are better the world expects them to change if they want to fit in it. "These questions and answers can help me redefine myself " "It's what I see for myself, I need to change for my health, I need a better way to blindfold myself." "If I stay the same, how long will I last? Yet if I change will I still just be alone & (?) cast?" (i think he's saying "typecast") "Professional answers cant help me to design myself"

he says "will i still just be alone and TYPECAST"....its a term used in theater when a person repeatedly gets the same type of part....and i think he says "over matter, through spaces time"......but anywho, this song kicks ass. its so gorgeous yet i feel like its kicking my ass :) taproot are masters of the art

Taproot has really come a long way, lyricaly, & musicaly, & i know they'll only move up-word with thier insperational music, but the lead singer needs to not sing through his nose....hehehe ;)

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
