"Pleas" as written by and Michael N. Houser S. Ortiz....
They say turn the bright lights on
And there you'll find the truth
Here, open up this book
And now you'll find the proof
It feels like a can of worms
Keep the lid on tight, and they say

Don't let it get too bright
Don't let it get too bright
Don't let it get too bright
No, not this time

They tell me it takes sorrow, boy
To help you feel the joy
They say it takes poverty
To let you love a toy
Now you can't have the good
Until you've shared the bad

Don't let it get too sad
Don't let it get too sad
Don't let it get too sad
No, not this time, time

They say it takes hardship, boy
To let you love the rest
Sometimes underneath the load
Is where I show my best
Go, put your work clothes on
Go and leave your mark
And they say

Don't let it get too dark
Don't let it get too dark
Don't let it get too dark
No, not this time

My InterpretationPretty self explanatory but to me this song is about what we go through in life, good times as bad. It's about keeping
keeping an even keel. Know that there are bad times but don't let them get the best of you. Work through them
and you'll fine they help to appreciate the good times even more.

General CommentI think it's about the challenges some of us experience as we come of age.

The first two paragraphs are contradictratory -
over ambiguous - bright - burn out - 'over work'

    with

over sad, dark, depressed, no ambition.

The chorus tells us to find a balance between the light and the dark

The final stanza tells us sometimes we have a lot of shit, and we have to bust our balls (sink or swim), but that's part of life. And sometimes it brings out our best, like the quote necessity is the mother of invention.

General CommentI wrote too much. It's just about finding that balance.
