In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."

This Song is quite clearly about trying to show people, yonug people that suicide is not the answer, and that their areother epople who will have the same problems as you, and that their are people out their that care, it reminds me of a number of people i know who have committed or attemtped to commit suicide, if they could just have known this have heard this song, if they hadjust been able to open their ears then maybe just maybe they would be here today, people have been singing about this sort of stuff for a long time, but good charlotte do this perfectly their vocies are perfect and suit the emotion behind the song, hopefully this song can be used in the fight against the ever rising youth suicide rate, i know their is a organisation in australia that might have a look at using it for those purposes, they are called Here For Life and they are youth suicide prevention team. This song should be released as a single as i think it would do well in Australia and the Usa, who afterall have the two highest youth suicide rates in the civilised world. Anyway brilliant song and great meaning caps off a brilliant album.

every nite basicly i slit my wrists and some times i feel like ending it completly but one nite i down loaded this song and to me its telling me not 2 kill myself becuz it gets better so yea it may sound corny but o well
I think this is a great song to listen 2 if you're depressed. I heard on some interview that they wrote it because of fans who wrote them about suicide but also because of when Benji went though a hard time as a teen. Its a pretty inspirational story since look where they are now after all they went through!

this is a great song it seems like they're talking to someone that's going through tough times and maybe doesn't understand that other people do go through things too, so they're just trying to tell them that it'll get better you know. been there done that or something. this song reminds me of a friend i have.
