Mýa, oh Mýa
Mýa
Mýa, will you please come out the bathroom? (Oh)
Just put the brush down and walk away
Just say no, will you come on?

It's going down, I can feel it (uh huh)
All around, and I need it (yeah)
It's taking me where I love to be (uh-huh, where I love to be)
So come on
Pack it in, fill the room now
Throw it up, for the crew now
I close my eyes and touch the sky

See, I don't mind
If people wanna look at me crazy (crazy)
It don't even phase me (phase me)
The feeling is making me high yeah (uh huh)

I don't wanna stop (don't stop)
My body heat (my bod-ay)
Knocking me right, off of my feet (yeah, uh huh)
Making me so high (so high)
I can't deny (so high)
The feeling's takin' me over
Over, over, over (now that's what I'm sayin')

Fellas, where ya game at?
For the ladies, that you aim at
Take a shot, show 'em what you got (show 'em whatcha got)
So come on, whatcha say, better move it (uh-huh)
Whatcha know, ya better use it (yeah)
Make a play before it slips away

I can't wait, the second that I finish my business
Can I get a witness? (Amen)
There's no better feeling than this

I (oh, I) don't wanna stop (don't stop)
My body heat (my bod-ay)
Knocking me right, off of my feet (uh huh, yeah, yeah)
Making me so high (so high)
I can't deny (so high)
The feeling's takin' me over
Over, yeah, baby

Now somebody has some explaining to do
Now why is it the club manager keeps sweatin' me?
Just 'cause I show up with a gang of about twenty-three
Packed beyond capacity, we all getting in free
It's straight to VIP nothing but hands grabbing on me
I'm a star, so I start my tab at the bar
It's one of the benefits when everybody knows who you are
Like my car, valets salivate like it's a cookie jar
Just keep it up front fellas, don't take it too far
It's been since October since the last time I was sober
Music's like a drug when it starts takin' me over
I see Mýa ain't fightin' it, she's on the dance floor
But it's all good 'cause we splittin' the cash from the door (well)
Well, fourteen bottles of Dom P later
It's just me, Mýa, the DJ, and the waiter
I go outside find my ride dented up like now-or-laters (damn)
Almost cried, swallowed my pride and said
Peace you valet player hater

I don't wanna stop (don't stop)
My body heat (my bod-ay)
Knocking me right, off of my feet (yeah, uh huh, come on)
Making me so high (so high)
I can't deny (so high, deny)
The feeling's takin' me over
(Come on, let's do this again everybody)

I don't wanna stop (uh, don't stop)
My body heat (my bod-ay)
Knocking me right, off of my feet (yeah, uh huh, come on)
Making me so high (so high)
I can't deny (yeah)
The feeling's takin' me over
Over (ah)
Over (don't stop)
Over (my bod-ay)
(Knockin' me right)

Okay, people the party's over
Just return to your simple lives and forget

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
