"Breaking Up The Girl" as written by Shirley Ann Manson, Bryan David Vig, Douglas Elwin Erickson and Steve W Marker....
In a modern culture
My friend you must be careful
They've a million ways to kill you
In this dangerous world
There's an art to growing old
Taking chances
Magic happens

One mistake's all it takes
And your life has come undone
Walk away cause you're breaking up the girl
It's a drag
I know it's hard
But you're tearing her apart
Walk away cause you're breaking up the girl

I am afraid that there's much to be afraid of
Here today and gone tomorrow
Don't end up in the gutter
Just like the one before
You're just the same
Such a loser

You've go to let her go because you're breaking up
You're breaking up the girl

General CommentI think that this song is talking about a relationship where the worst thing that could happen is that it could go terribly wrong. The relationship is well worth it, but there's always a chance...

General CommentI think it's a bout a guy who loves a girl oh-so-much, but he's almost obsessive... and he keeps going after girls he can't get, obsessing over them, and it breaks them apart because they don't love him back...

General Commentim sorry, but garbage has gone down in quality. im a huge fan and i couldn't wait for this cd and i was let down so much. garbage got a bubblegum poppy sound way far from verison 2.0 and the pink cd. dont get me wrong, i love garbage, but the new cd lives up to the bands name.

General CommentI think it's about a girl who's in an abusive relationship, but she won't leave him because she is too scared of the real world.

General CommentI don't really like Garbage that much, but for some reason this song strikes a chord with me.

It's told from the pov of someone who knows what's going on between some guy and a lady. The guy is a loser/not of the type for this particular girl that this guy is really interested in. However, he is pursuing him with a particular intensity and niceness, and the girl can't stand it because she feels bad for him, but she also doesn't want to go out with him... so going further is only going to cause a lot of crap for everyone.

I don't think it's about a bad relationship or anything, because the song is said in such an admonishing tone that it seems like the speaker really has some sympathy for the guy... but he just needs to let it go.

General Commentgarbage are fantastic. get what people mean about this album being a bit bubblegum pop but tbh the album has shown that this is just another example of what garbage can do.... everything. and so well
