Welcome we love you
We hate you
We love you
We want you
We need you
We wish we were like you
They say you're a saint
You're a whore
You're a sinner
That he had you
He made you
He can't live without you.

Would you confess if we asked
That you nurture the urge
To declare that it's time
To settle down
With a man of your own
You want a baby
A family
A piece of security

Shut your mouth
Try not to panic
Just shut your mouth
If you can do it

What's your opinion on the dire situation
In our land here
Our guest here
Of course you'll be nice here
How do you feel about god and religion
Are you good people
Bad people
Guess it doesn't matter people.

Your place
My place
Make her bring that famous face
You got some
You want some
You want to let me get you some
We know your music but of course we'd never buy it
It's too fake man
Right man!
(We don't give a damn.)

I hear you say it
Play it smart girl
Win the game love
Give 'em what they want
What they want to see and you could be a big star
You could go far
Make a landmark
What have you been reading you smart girl?
Win the game love
Give 'em what they want
What they want to see and you could be a big star
You could go far
Make a landmark
Make a shit load.

And the world spins by
With everybody moaning
Pissing, bitching and everyone is shitting
On their friends
On their love
On their oaths
On their honour
On their graves
Out their mouths
And their words say nothing

I waited to say something
Oh shut your mouth
I wanted to say something
Oh shut your mouth
I wanted to be something
Oh shut your mouth

I love this song! Some people I know say that it describes me...I'm not sure why, they just do. Anyway, people really got to start commenting more on Garbage lyrics! What do you think this song means?!

This is so society and media. Everything and anything that has to do with gossip, rumors, social groups, what people expect of you and being accepted. My favorite part of this whole thing is, "I hear you say it Play it smart girl Win the game love Give 'em what they want What they want to see and you could be a big star You could go far," Because she sounds so sarcastic it's fun. Truely a great song.

this song is definatly about the media and its invasion of privacy and twisting of the truth the chorus "Shut your mouth Try not to panic Just shut your mouth If you can do it" is almost a battle not to say anything that they can put a spin on and the final verse shows howthey never listen to truth and make the artist feel that they are not what they wanted to be

This song is definitely about people, mainly the media, bugging her and pressuring her to be something she's not. My favorite part is:

"We know your music but of course we'd never buy it It's too fake man Right man! (We don't give a fucking damn.)"

Love it! I can totally understand some jealous assholes telling her "I'd never buy your music" and they start critiquing her work all the while she's thinking "do you really think I care what your opinion of my work is? Fuck off!"

I think Shirley Mainson's voice represents the media and how it is shaping the life of this rising star, and telling her people's opinions about her. Also the line "We know your music but of course we'd never buy it It's too fake man" is the public, and she has to deal with yet another opinion.

I heard this song on The Division. This is the second song I heard off that show and looked up. The first one was Help Me Be Good To You by Heather Nova. I liked this when I first heard it.

Great song, but one line bugs me. The line "We don't give a fucking damn" seems misplaced. Clearly their opinion does matter to her. If she feels that the media/critics etc. opinion is so insignificant, then why right a whole song about it and get so emotional about it. Doesn't make sense.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
