Ha

I saw this guy go down
Wasn't time for fear before his body hit the ground
Our vulnerability is all our insensitivity

Car that hit him pulled to a stop
Driver hid his bottles, he anticipated cops
Our vulnerability is all our insensitivity

Oh yeah

Crowd assembled to take a look at death
Shattered skull, fractured body, blacktop running red
Our vulnerability is all our insensitivity

And people look bored like expecting more
People look bored like expecting more
Our vulnerability is all our insensitivity

And sympathy is only friendship's whore, you know
And maybe we don't know who we are anymore
And another spectacle, and it's respectable
To take it lightly like another TV show
So desensitized, so dehumanized
Why stop and think when you can find someplace to go?

We're drowning
We're drowning
Our vulnerability is all our insensitivity
We're drowning
We're drowning
Our vulnerability is all our insensitivity
And it's gonna be the death of us, just you wait and see

2023 here - Imagine if Michaels wrote this little ditty when everyone had a high definition recording device in their pocket that also had the ability to share with multiple social network - all so the recorder can get a tiny bit of fame for the suffering they captured.

There is a reason that Johnny Depp bought the Viper Room and turned it into a place where young celebrities can hide from the piercing eyes of the paparazzi camera. A young musician such as Michaels, who must have taken trips from the Bay Area to LA and seen shows on the Sunset Strip, would have witnessed this abhorrent behavior firsthand. Now, we have a whole subset of celebrities that are celebrities specifically for broadcasting their private lives.

this is a song about mankinds inability to have self control. we get sucked into what sparks our imagination which, in turn, leaves us vulnerable.

it's about how desensitized we are to violence and crime. We just don't take care of eachother, nor do we care to. Vulnerable because anything bad can happen to anyone, we are all vulnerable to illness, bad luck, death, but no one will help us. the opposite of vulnerability is protection, and we refuse to protect others.

jesse michaels is awesome! writing lyrics like these at 19, i'm sure there are 19 year olds that think that way, but to make it sound this good....wow.

Well, I've been thinking that way since I was 16 or 17, but yeah, I could never write lyrics for a ska band like Jesse did. This song is one of the best. It gets to the point, and tells you exactly what is wrong with society. People don't give two shits about anyone else. They only care when it affects them, and it's such a dissapointment. Do something for someone next time you someone in need. Stop making fun of people, and lend a helping hand. It really does make a difference in someone's life.

This is definitely my favorite punk song by op ivy. The lyrics basically have the same message as Ray Bradbury's Farenheit 451, especially with the line "why stop and think when you can find some place to go?" My favorite part of the song is definitely at the end, beginning with "And sympathy..." I had to do this thing last year in english where we had to bring in a song with poetic lyrics, so I naturaly brought in this one. And of course, my spirits were crushed when everyone in my class was like" EW WAT IS THIS IS SUX LOL PUT ON CHAMILLIONARE" Oh well. Fuck the radio.

This is by far my favorite Op Ivy song, and the best line in the song is "Sympathy is only friendship's whore, you know"

and it's so true. everything IS dehumanized these days.
