Al said goodbye to his mom and dad for the first time in his life
tonight left the house and walked out to the waiting car outside
and somehow he thought they'd never understand that nothing lasts
and he just knows that time is just spinning by
and life is passing him by so fast
And sometimes I think I'm the only one
that feels like going nowhere is like giving up
Al said to me a few days ago
that he just thought for the first time in his life
he feels the last 10 years were only a waste of time
and that it was only a compromise of what he always felt inside
his declaration of independence
said to me under the orange street lights
he was the one
who always did the right thing
he was the one that listened to everything they'd say
but today he's never going back

General CommentThis is a pretty simple thing to figure out, it's about a guy who feels like he's going nowhere and he's wasted his entire life. But, he decides that he's not giving up, which is a nice little feelgood touch at the end.

General CommentThis song has sooo much emotion. To me it means something a little different, because this song made stop and look around at what I was doing with my life. Getting tired of doing the right thing. I think the song should be changed to Alison's War. I love it when the bass player sings, he's awesome.

General CommentI admit it, this song makes me cry. To me, it's about having all the wrong things in your life and realizing you need change. The only way to do this is to go off on your own, leaving family and bad friends behind. It's so lonely living the life you want for yourself sometimes. The bridge is simply a tear juggernaut.

General CommentDont feel bad admitting it makes you cry...i am exactly the same. The emotion put forth behind this song is greater than usual with these bunch of tweakers we love so much. There is only one song with more meaning to me behind it....and that would have to be "Look What Happened" Check out the posts on that for the reasoning.
