@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. Midnight

Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms.
“Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
..not as a song, but as an anthem?.. ..anthem of sadness..
This song is absolutely brilliant in my opinion. The simple chord structure, not complex but deeply emotional, which is what music should be. The lyrics are simple, but very powerful, very powerful for sure. I love the way that Moby left the second set of lyrics open to interpretation, this shows true artistry, and it's great, very great! And don't forget the music. He starts with A minor, then to E minor, then to G major, and D major. . a switch to F major then C major conveys a powerful feeling. Simple, but pure and sincere, as the lyrics also suggest. . Great stuff! A couple of interpretations of what the woman is singing: a) Feel's like it don't, b) He'll open doors, c) These open doors, d) He's got to know. Moby did a great job of making sure that any interpretation of the lyrics fits the overall theme of the song, this is true art, not unlike one looking upon a great painting, and finding your own meaning to it.
Good point about the painting reference!
totally agree,to play these notes are choice, these are great words; open to each and everyones own interpretation...<br /> but, opening doors further is another subject.<br /> enjoy being lost in your own personal moment with song is enjoyable ;) x
@Smashinz The lyric is definitely “He’ll open doors” since it comes from the Banks Brothers’ “He’ll Roll Your Burdens Away” along with the main lyrics about his heart and soul feeling so bad. In that song the meaning is clear. In fact, other versions of the song replace “He” with “King Jesus.” That said, the new Reprise version changes this. Given the context it sounds more likely that it is “He’s opened doors” but all the lyrics databases have already written it as “These open doors.”
Funny how so many people have their version of what is said throughout the song. I always thought the lyrics were "Fear of alone".
I always heard, "He doesn't know"<br />
I always thought it was "Feel all alone"
I thought it was "Keep holding on"
@Borza the thing is i can hear multiple things after reading some suggetions , and in my modest opinion i think it is sung this way to stay suggestive . <br /> <br /> cause so many people hear different things , its open to a broader area of listeners to relate to the song.<br /> <br /> its like the reading thing where ur mind doesnt need certain letters to read a word or sentence cause ur mind suggests the words from letter placement and memory like autocorrect <br /> <br /> since u cant clearly here whats being sung ur mind is autocorrecting the audio with little to much luck and ur subconscious pitches in a bit with something u might be struggling with lately.<br /> <br /> so i.e ur listening this song and u cant clearly hear out the second set so autocorrect jumps in no succes > u try to listen a little better > what is she saying ? <br /> so lets say u started noticing everybody friends, family moving up in live . a job , wife/husband a house , children etc etc but ur still all alone . <br /> <br /> ur subconcious notices ur conciousness is slacking off at the job and decides to pinch in.<br /> and boom ,there u hear > all alone<br /> <br /> same thing applies to everything all others here i think this is one of the or not THE reason this song hits u right on the spot, and makes ur heart feel so bad.<br /> simply cause ur concious is reminded of something it tried to hide away
Very few of us can really be certain of the why.
Someone once told me a while ago that this song, and even the video, were Moby's interpretation of "the Little Prince". And I kinda see it. In the video, the main character travels around Earth like he's in search of something he just can't find (an ideal life?). He left with great plans, but everywhere he goes, he realizes that there's not much there for him, and he witnesses things that just break his heart to no end. So in the end, he tries to find a way home. I dunno, anyone else following me on this?
Thats got to be it. I am a big fan of the Little Prince. Today I woke up feeling down so I examined my life and realized I was following a similar path to the one of the little Prince and that therefore I think it's time for me to go back home. Right after I realized that I started playing this song on my head, I could feel a similarity that I couldn't understand. So here I am looking for the meaning of it, not expecting the little Prince whatsoever. And Voila! What a coincidence. I had no idea Moby like the Little Prince, thank you very much.
I think he has done something pretty amazing here. The words while captivating in themselves, aren't the focal point. its the melody which propels the song forward and at the same time say what the words cannot.
In an odd way it reminds me of Crash Test Dummies - Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm. They have sort of a complete reverse take on the song itself having the lyrics change but the melody remain the same.
i think it qualifies as a song, just my opinion tho. doesn't have much lyrics but the way he puts the music just makes the song perfect in every way...any more lyrics then it wouldn't fit. whoever the woman is singing in this song has a great voice.
its amazing how few words can convey such great emotion
does not it go like these?
these open doors,, these open doors,, help! these open doors,, help!

It makes me sad, but I love it. At first I thought the "these open doors" said "these look like gnomes". >__
