"Take It Easy" as written by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey....
Well I'm a-runnin' down the road, tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind
Four that want to own me, two that want to stone me
One says she's a friend of mine
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand, and take it easy

Well, I'm a-standin' on a corner in Winslow, Arizona
Such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord, in a flat-bed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me
Come on, baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me
We may lose and we may win, though we will never be here again
So open up I'm climbin' in, so take it easy

Well, I'm a-runnin' down the road tryin' to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover who won't blow my cover, she's so hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels make you crazy
Come on baby, don't say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is gonna save me

Oh, we got it easy
We outghta take it easy

General CommentHERE'S THE MEANING: The seven women represent the seven days of the week!

Four that wanna own me: Work week Mon-Thur
Two that wanna stone me: Fri-Sat
One says she's a friend of mine: Sunday

I just asked this question on my Facebook, so you just cheated!

General CommentExcellent song. I've been to Winslow, AZ... if you are ever taking I-40 through Arizona, it's a fun little stop.

I once heard a theory about the line:
I've got seven women on my mind,
    Four that wanna own me,
    Two that wanna stone me,
One says she's a friend of mine

The suggestion was that these were the days of the week. Mon-Thur with hard work, Fri and Sat with partying, and Sunday with church.

    An interesting thought.

General CommentJackson Browne and Glenn Frey co-wrote this. Jackson Browne began to write it and didn't like it. Glenn asked him if he could finish it and perform it. It worked out for the both of them. I like Browne's version the best actually EVEN THOUGH I LOVE the Eagles and they are my favorite band :)

General CommentTake it easy. Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy. Awesome!

To me it's all about living in the present moment and not getting jacked up over the small stuff.

Could've saved myself 3 years of therapy if I had actually listened to the lyrics of this song growing up! lol

General CommentThis is a great song because it can be taken many ways. Perhaps a dont-worry-be-happy kind of way, but it seems clear to me that this is a song about every boy's fantasy about girls! Lovin em and leaving em. He tells his lover to 'Take it easy' and 'Lighten up' when dumping her and then later says 'take it easy' again to mean 'see you later'. Kinda cold and cruel but the way it goes when you have seven women on your mind! Jackson Browne's version seems to me to have aged much better than The Eagles'.

My InterpretationI could be way off base here, but as far as I see, he's hoping to get laid "loosen his load", but he's also conflicted by all the women in his life, and isn't sure which one will bring him happiness. This is kinda driving him crazy, but he's giving himself self talk to take it easy and try and relax. He sees the girl in the flat bed Ford, and he wonders if maybe the next girl can resolve his conflict concerning the other 7 women, by being the girl of his dreams that apparently the other 7 didn't quite live up to.
