"She's Actual Size" as written by John Linnell and John Flansburgh....
Words fail
Buildings tumble
The ground opens wide
Light beams down from heaven
She stands before my eyes

She's actual size, but she seems much bigger to me
Squares may look distant in her rear view mirror but they're actual size
As she drives away

Big men
Often tremble
As they step aside
I thought I was big once
She changed my mind

She's actual size, but she seems much bigger to me.
I've never known anybody like her, she's actual size
Nationwide, believe

She's got
All the money
Money couldn't buy
She's got something special
That someone left behind

She's actual size, but she seems much bigger to me
Squares may look distant in her rear view mirror but they're actual size
Actual size to her

Her face
Hangs in portrait
On the post office wall
She's stuck in my heart now
Where my blood belongs

She's actual size, but she seems much bigger to me
I've never known anybody like her, she's actual size
Actual size, believe

I love this line. It's somewhere between very funny and very poetic. Closer to funny.

General CommentIt hit me like a ton of bricks in the shower this morning. This song is about the Statue of Liberty.

General CommentI've been listening to this song for over 25 years and it just hit me what this song is really about: the Statue of Liberty: "She's actual size but seems much bigger to me" is the importance that the Statue of Liberty, as a symbol, has on the American people. "Her face hangs in portrait on the post office wall" is a reference to the Statue of Liberty postage stamps. "She's stuck in my heart now where my blood belongs" is the presence of patriotism in our blood.

General CommentI read this on their site, actually... this song is about a girl driving away from a guy in her car and seeing him in the side view mirrors. And instead of being "closer than they may appear", she's "actual size". Pretty sneaky, eh?

General CommentI thought it was abot someone who fixated on a face on a wanted poster, a woman who drove a getaway car. Hence the rear-view mirror, "Nationwide", all the money (i.e., from a robbery) and the post-office wall.

General CommentI think this one is obvious...

its about a girl who the singer, and other guys ("big men.."), have built up in their minds. The singer is reminding himself/the audience that she is just a person.
