"Silent Scream" as written by Tomas Enrique Araya, Jeffery John Hanneman and Kerry King....
Nightmare, the persecution
A child's dream of death.

Torment, ill forgotten
A soul that will never rest.

Guidance, it means nothing
In a world of brutal time.

Electric, circus, wild,
Deep in the infants mind.

Silent Scream
Bury the unwanted child.
Beaten and torn
Sacrifice the unborn.

Shattered, adolescent [sings: another child]
Bearer of no name.

Restrained, insane games
Suffer the children condemned.

Scattered, remnants of life,
Murder a time to die.

Pain, sufferaged toyed,
Life's little fragments destroyed.

Silent Scream
Crucify the bastard son.
Beaten and torn
Sanctify lives of scorn.

Life preordained
Humanity maintained.
Extraction termination
Pain's agonizing stain.

Embryonic death,
Embedded in your brain.
Suffocation, strangulation,
Death is fucking you insane.

Nightmare, the persecution
A child's dream of death.

Torment, ill forgotten
A soul that will never rest.
Innocence withdrawn in fear.
Fires burning can you hear
Cries in the night.

General CommentI agree that this song is speaking of abortion. This song is so intense, probably The Only song I've ever heard or can remember that even comes close to the unleashing of raw power as Metallica's "Dyer's Eve" This is a true masterpiece of speed and power and it will Forever be one of my favorites!!!!

General CommentI dont think this song is necessarily anti abortion, rather it just looks at the subject from a graphic point of view. libertykillingcons is right in saying that it would be strange for slayer to take a pro life stance, at least enough to write a song about it.

General CommentAbortion. I think the "you" refers to the mother. The "embryonic death" is "embedded" in "your brain" meaning HER brain. In other words, it sounds as if the narration is indicating that she will regret this decision and she will harbor guilt over it for the rest of her life. I think that the "death is fucking you insane" line is very graphic. The reason I say this is because I think that Araya is saying that in order to cause the "death" of the fetus, the woman essentially has to be violated in a way. With the vacuum/suction aspiration method of abortion, they have to go in through the woman's cervix. I think this is why Tom is using an f-bomb here instead of saying that it's "DRIVING you insane." Essentially, the woman is being violated in order to achieve the death of the fetus. That's my take on this song. My comments are not meant to take either a pro-life or pro-choice position; I'm just stating my personal interpretation of what Tom is saying in this song.

Song MeaningTom Araya is Catholic, so his anti-abortion view wouldn't be surprising. Also, the song is named after an anti-abortion documentary called "the Silent Scream".

"Silent Scream, Bury the unwanted child"
Simply, the fœtus is unwanted, so the baby is killed

    "Sacrifice the unborn"
Showing that the "child" is unborn, therefore a fœtus

    "Bearer of no name"
The baby has been killed before the parents have even named it

    "Extraction termination"
    The fœtus is extracted

    "Embryonic death"
    Pretty self explanatory

    "Innocence withdrawn in fear"
Through fear of giving birth and having a child, the "innocence" is removed swiftly

If anyone is saying that this isn't anti-abortion, then they clearly can't understand the lyrics.

General CommentSomewhat strange to think that the guys of Slayer seem anti-abortion. Or perhaps they're not, maybe they're just singing about it. I don't know.
