It's you that I adore
You will always be my whore
You'll be a mother to my child
And a child to my heart

We must never be apart
We must never be apart
Lovely girl you're the beauty in my world
Without you there aren't reasons left to find

And I'll pull your crooked teeth
You'll be perfect just like me
You'll be a lover in my bed
And a gun to my head

We must never be apart
We must never be apart
Lovely girl you're the murder in my world
Dressing coffins for the souls I've left to die
Drinking mercury
To the mystery of all that you should ever leave behind
In time

In you I see dirty
In you I count the stars
In you I feel so pretty
In you I taste God
In you I feel so hungry
In you I crash cars
We must never be apart

Drinking mercury
To the mystery of all that you should ever seek to find
Lovely girl you're the murder in my world
Dressing coffins for the souls I've left behind
In time
We must never be apart

And you'll always be my whore
'Cause you're the one that I adore
And I'll pull your crooked teeth
You'll be perfect just like me

In you I feel so dirty
In you I crash cars
In you I feel so pretty
In you I taste God...
We must never be apart

General CommentThere are obviously many different interpretations of this song, but to me this song is about a destructive relationship. The writer is madly in love with this woman, but for some reason, she is not right for him. In the end he knows she will end up destroying him. However, because of his strong affection for her, he will not ever let her go. The girl most likely has a lot of baggage that needs to be dealt with and this baggage carries over into their relationship and taints it. Perhaps, in his eyes she is perfect. It's just the rest of the world that views her as imperfect, but he sees the world's opinion and he can't dismiss it. Also, perhaps it's about escaping lonliness. He's with this girl that is not good for him because he can't stand to be alone. She fills him, yet he is still hungry. Maybe in a way he is using this girl. I don't know. That's what I've always thought this song meant, but it definitely could mean a myriad of other things. It all depends on the person.

My InterpretationI actually think it's about his anima (the unconscious of the male which finds expression as an inner feminine personality, conversely, the unconscious of the female finds expression as an inner masculine personality (animus)) and the ultimate struggle (like everyone else in this World) to find a balance between the conscious and the unconscious (we must never be apart). I think in this song, the anima is the whore, the murder in his world, the lover in his bed, the gun to his head, the one that drinks mercury to the mystery of all that it should ever seek to find, dresses coffins for the souls left behind and in the anima he feels dirty and can taste god (Eastern Philosphy focuses on the way in which to find your inner god). I think he is talking about the deep dark urges that we all have - ever had a sudden urge to hit someone or have a lucid violent dream? These urges/dreams are considered to be the messages or language of the unconscious.

General CommentAt first, it seems like he's creating a "perfect" woman/whore/slave for himself. Sort of like a Pygmalion or My Fair Lady mixed with Frankenstein. But after a few other posters said that it's just a song Billy created for rhyming...I don't know anymore.

General CommentAll songs are open for interpretation, but whether-or-not they make an ounce of damn sense is another damn thing! Heh heh.

General Comment" lovely girl, you're the murder in my world
dressing coffins for the souls I've left behind "

    - That is one of my favorite lines in a song ever. I was intrigued to see what everyone thought about this song, and I am not surprised to see that the song doesn't appear to have an "official" meaning.

Some people have said that they think that this song is about a destructive relationship, citing lines like " You'll always be my whore " and " drinking mercury..." And I think that that is valid, but I see it as perhaps a relationship between two people who are ... "strange", for lack of a better word. In this union of two quirky people, the things others would see as destructive, as abusive, they see as a normal expression of their love. -Everybody has a soul mate. I love this song.

General Commenthow do you know it's about courtney love....and for that matter, i can think of ten songs that people on this site say are about courtney love. WHO CARES!!!! plus, i don't think that every artist/band is so consumed by her that they have to write songs about it.

General CommentI believe Billy said that this song was just an example of him writing words together that just rhymed, with a very loose common theme. The video is one of the best ever made in my opinion.
