"Break Your Heart" as written by and Steven Page....
The bravest thing I've ever done
Was to run away and hide
But not this time, not this time
And the weakest thing I've ever done
Was to stay right by your side
Just like this time, and every time
I couldn't tell you I was happy when you were gone
So I lied and said that I missed you when we were apart
I couldn't tell you, so I had to lead you on
But I didn't mean to break your heart

And if I always seem distracted
Like my minds somewhere else
That's because it's true, yes it's true
It's this stupid pride that makes me feel
Like I have to follow through
Even half-assedly, loving you
Why must I always speak in terms of cowardice?
When I guess I should have just come out and told you right from the start
Why must I always tell you all I want is this?
I guess 'cause I didn't want to break your heart

And you said
What'd you think that I was gonna do,
Curl up and die just because of you?
I'm not that weak, you know
What'd you think that I was gonna do,
Try to make you love me as much as I love you?
How could you be so low?
You arrogant man,
What do you think that I am?
My heart will be fine
Just stop wasting my time

And now I know that you will be okay, and that I got what I want
And that's rid of you
Good bye
And it's not cause I'll be missing you
That makes me fall apart
It's just that I didn't mean to break
No I didn't mean to break
No I didn't mean to break
Your heart

General CommentI love this song, too, but I've always seen it from a slightly different perspective (probably because I have been in this exact situation, unfortunately). I think it's true that he doesn't want to hurt the girl, but I think it's more out of his own fear ("Why must I always speak in terms of cowardice") than about her feelings. BNL's wacky songs kind of divert attention from the serious pathos in a lot of their stuff. These guys have some issues, which is just one more reason to love their songs. So much depth.

General CommentYeah, i've been here too. It's not just not wanting to break her heart, but some fear, as well.

Sometimes, when you're in deep, there's real fear in admitting something that you've covered up for so long...

General Commentthis song is so pretty even though it's so sad lol it's about a relationship the guy doesn't want to be in but the girl does. he wants to end it but he doesn't want to break her heart so he never has the guts to tell her how he really feels and that just upsets her more that he couldn't be honest and had been pretending to love her. she's going to move on and be fine and he's not going to miss her but he wishes he didn't have to break her heart.

General CommentThis is my favorite BNL song...it reminds me of most of my relationships. It's an honest and beautiful ballad...always guaranteed to tear me up...It really should have been on the greatest hits cd.

General Commentthis has to be my favorite song of all time to sing. at the end, when he starts screaming, you can tell he means what he's saying.

General CommentThis is maybe my favorite song,
I just love it, it's amazing, and so powerful,
it talks about a guy who wants to leave a girl, but doesnt want to break her heart, so he stays with her. and when he does tell her, it back fires. (and then we dont understand why men dont understand women, sheesh.)

General CommentIt sounds reminiscent to diva ballads (whitney houston etc). Nevertheless a very heart-felt song that really does his voice justice.

General Comment**sigh** His voice can make anyone melt.
I wouldn't want to be the girl though :)
It's not a ballad coz he's not saying "I love you" and stuff like that. Infact it's the opposite.
