"Who Let the Dogs Out" as written by and Anslem Douglas....
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?

When the party was nice, the party was bumpin'
Hey, Yippie, Yi, Yo
And everybody havin' a ball
Hey, Yippie, Yi, Yo
I tell the fellas stop the name callin'
Hey, Yippie, Yi, Yo
Then them girls respond to the call
I hear a woman shout out

Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?

I see ya' little speed boat head up our coast
She really want to skip town
Get back ruffy, back scruffy
Get back you flea infested mongrel

I'm gonna tell myself I might not get angry
Hey, Yippie, Yi, Yo
To hear dem girls calling them canine
Hey, Yippie, Yi, Yo
But they say hey man dat is part of the party
Hey, Yippie, Yi, Yo
Them woman in front and they man behind
I hear ah woman shout out

Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?

A doggie is nothing if he don't have a bone
All a doggy hold ya' bone, all doggy hold it
Ah doggie is nothing if he don't have a bone
All a doggy hold ya' bone, all doggy hold it

Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?

I see ya' little speed boat head up our coast
She really want to skip town
Get back fluffy, back scruffy
Get back you flea infested mongrel

Well if I was a dog
The party is on
I got to get my girl I got my mind on
Do you see the rays coming from my eyes
Walking through the place like digi-man just breaking it down
Me and my white socks
Short and I can't see color
Any color but you
I'm figuring that's why they call me pit bull
'Cause I'm the man of the land when they see me they say oooooh

Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?

Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?

Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?
Who let the dogs out?
Who, who, who, who, who?

General CommentThere's a lot of interesting dog-related figurative language going on here. It seems that the women are calling the men dogs. At first this seems to mean (to me) that the women are saying that the men are undesirable ("flea-infested mongrels", etc.). As the song progresses, this seems to evolve into calling them horn dogs -- since the men are clearly after sex. (The panting in the song adds to this.) The narrator seems to take this namecalling not as an insult, but as a compliment, as he brags about the men's success at obtaining sexual gratification while behaving as dogs.

There are some other visuals here tied into the "dog" them. For example, a woman in front and a man behind is a good description of the sexual position called doggy style.

It may not be a very deep, meaningful song, but I'll bet a lot of thought was put into the lyrics just the same.

General CommentOK now for the SONG'S MEANING. I've heard from a band interview or something that it refers to all the crude guys who act up during a party when everything gets going. The ones who fawn over all the ladies and try to be big shots. I'm not speaking for the quality or substance of this song, but there it is, the meaning folks. I've heard that Baha Men is actually a calypso band and this is their attempt at pop. The verses are a bit more calypso, but...

General CommentIn this song "dog" is taken to mean a sexually active male, presumably the singers themselves. The use of onomatopoeia ("woof") skillfully disguises this in a euphemistic fashion. Further canine-themed wordplay is evident in the song, such as when a female at a party rejects the singer's sexual advances, calling him a "flea infested mongrel," as well as the singer's pun about a dog having a bone, which yokes the image of an actual dog chewing an actual bone with a sexually active male having an erection ("bone" is vernacular for this). Furthermore the singer hypothesizes about himself in canine form, saying "I can't see color/any color will do0," which makes sense since dogs are known to be colorblind but it is also implied that the singer is colorblind in the sense of being non-racist. Despite his seeming inability to get a woman as he wishes, he nonetheless enjoys the party.

General CommentI am nearly rendered speechless by the reading of these lyrics. How profound! It is obvious to me that the lyricist for this song took some great time and effort pouring his/her soul into it. "Say, A doggy is nuttin' if he don't have a bone." I think I'm going to have that tattooed on my left butt cheek. It's the most true thing I've ever heard in my life. It simply brings a tear to my eye. Of course, for symmetry, I think I'll put "Get back you flea infested monger" on the other cheek. Yeah! I love this meaningless, media-hyped lump of "song"! "Woof, woof woof woof!" *lies*

MemoryThe greatest mystery of our time: Who DID let the dogs out?

I'll always be fond of this song, though. It came out when I ran cross country in middle school. Our mascot was the Huskies, so before races we would sing "Who let the Huskies out?" and make the appropriate woofing noises. It seemed so clever at the time.
