"Redundant" as written by Billie Joe Armstrong, Frank E. Wright and Michael Pritchard....
We're living in repetition
Content in the same old shtick again
Now the routine's turning to contention,
Like a production line going over and over and over,
Roller coaster
Now I cannot speak, I lost my voice
I'm speechless and redundant
Cause I love you's not enough
I'm lost for words
Choreographed and lack of passion
Prototypes of what we were
Went full circle 'til I'm nauseous
Taken for granted now
Now I waste it, faked it, ate it, now I hate it
Now I cannot speak, I lost my voice
I'm speechless and redundant,
Cause I love you's not enough
I'm lost for words, now I cannot speak

General CommentI think it probably is that "I love you" isn't enough to make everything good again when they fight... yeah, I hadn't really thought of that before. Gotta love SongMeanings!

General CommentI think more than that, he's trying to find a way to apologize to her, and it's gotten to the point where he can't just "I love you" his way out of it anymore. He doesn't know how else to defend whatever it is she's mad about, but their love is old enough that "I love you" isn't powerful anymore.

General CommentIs it possible that this relationship is the same one as in Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)? It seems Good Riddance could have been the end of the same relationship. Both involve a very loving but tired relationship that was once amazing and has faded to nothing. If so, "I love you" obviously wasn't enough.

General CommentI love the lyrics to this song they are sooo cool! I guess this songs about a couple who have been together for so long that now they are getting stuck and bored of what they have, and that they want somthing new for them but they still love each other

General CommentI really, really like this song. It's my favorite song off Nimrod. The verses are about a relationship that's starting to go bad... it's getting to be the same old thing all over again, and he's getting sick of it. But the chorus implies that he still loves her, even though it feels like it's been said too many times before and it's not enough.

General CommentGreat song. :) I mean who isn't lost for words. I know it's about being in a tired relationship, but I mean the chorus does indeed say that he still loves her.

General Commentmaybe its about a relationship. (billie joe), thought that the relationship was over, boring...no changes. So in spite of this looks for something new, he may have cheated on her "taken for granted". then realizes that he was wrong, and that he still loves this girl. he must tell his love what he has done, and continues by saying "i love you"-- she doesn't think its enough "I love you is not enough I'm lost for words" because she is so hurt by his selfishness.

General CommentI always thought that "cause I love you" 's not enough was sort of like the answer toe the question.
    For example
girl: Why did you do that?
    boy: cause I love you

And he's saying that's just not enough anymore for either of them. It seems to me that it never really was all that great of a relationship, or at least in his mind, he feels that way now.
