I let the beast in too soon, I don't know how to live
Without my hand on his throat; I fight him always and still
Oh darling, it's so sweet, you think you know how crazy
How crazy I am
You say you don't spook easy, you won't go, but I know
And I pray that you will
Fast as you can, baby runfree yourself of me
Fast as you can
I may be soft in your palm but I'll soon grow
Hungry for a fight, and I will not let you win
My pretty mouth will frame the phrases that will
Disprove your faith in man
So if you catch me trying to find my way into your
Heart from under your skin
Fast as you can, baby scratch me out, free yourself
Fast as you can
Fast as you can, baby scratch me out, free yourself
Fast as you can
Sometimes my mind don't shake and shift
But most of the time, it does
And I get to the place where I'm begging for a lift
Or I'll drown in the wonders and the was
And I'll be your girl, if you say it's a gift
And you give me some more of your drugs
Yeah, I'll be your pet, if you just tell me it's a gift
'Cause I'm tired of whys, choking on whys,
Just need a little because, because
I let the beast in and then;
I even tried forgiving him, but it's too soon
So I'll fight again, again, again, again, again.
And for a little while more, I'll soar the
Uneven wind, complain and blame
The sterile land
But if you're getting any bright ideas, quiet dear
I'm blooming within
Fast as you can, baby wait watch me, I'll be out
Fast as I can, maybe late but at least about
Fast as you can leave me, let this thing
Run its route
Fast as you can [x4]

General CommentOk, I seriously think Fiona would be disgusted if she saw some of these shallow comments. I'm pretty damn sure the song is about her having a track record of hurting men, deliberately? who knows... but this one has gotten in somehow. She's frightened of that, and even more frightened that she'll hurt him and every guy she tries to date. She's warning him to try and scare him away so she can have the cold comfort of knowing she tried to prevent it. She's just describing what kind of person she is and can be. Bitter about a lot of things in life and " my pretty mouth will frame the phrases that will disprove your faith in man" is basically saying that she's got a lot of opinions about the world and she's not shy about voicing them, whether it destroys someone's outlook or not. The song is all about her giving warning to a guy, but underneath it all she wants it to work, she's practically daring him to try and bare with her faults.

General CommentPersonally I relate this song to an eating disorder or a personality disorder which she calls the beast. She tries to fight it and whoever she is with thinks they understand and they think they can help her...but she doesn't want help because she knows she will eventually hurt him as well. " may be soft in your palm but I?ll soon grow
Hungry for a fight, and I will not let you win"

Thats what I see though. I don't think its about most women and just being mean to men...I think it is bigger then that. A lot of her songs talk about the beast within and the complete emotional turmoil that occurs within some people. I feel this song is about not dragging others down with her and how they should run as fast as they can before they get hurt.

General CommentI agree with WinterOnyx. To me this song is not about being a proud bitch who hurt/manipulate men. Several lines in this song suggest that she might have some issues that she's awared of and she'd rather push love away than hurting others.
"Sometimes my mind don’t shake and shift, but most of the time, it does"
    "I let the beast in"
"I don’t know how to live without my hand on his throat"
My favorite lines "I’m tired of whys, choking on whys,
Just need a little because, because". For me, it meant that she's tired of questions/mysteries/doubts of life and just needs some answers/something constant/something that makes sense.

General CommentI think WinterOnyx had it right. She's not saying she'd crazy, basically just that she's difficult to be with, and she will stand up for herself, and yes, she's almost daring him to try and be with her. I really relate to it, because I don't think a lot of men could handle me; many seem to want submissive types, Fiona's saying she's not one of them. I'm not one either. I really relate to the lines "I may be soft in your palm but I soon grow hungry for a fight, and I will not let you win. My pretty mouth will frame the phrases that will disprove your faith in man."

General CommentI agree with Winter too, I think that she knows that she may hurt people unintentionally, so is warning him get away, it could all go crazy.. And yet hoping he's braze/foolish enough to stay around any way..

General CommentFiona sees in herself what we all do sometimes. You know there are those fights you pick with the people you love...that detatched feeling. You fight and you scream and you say things just to hurt- just because it's time for a fight.

I know about being soft and sweet, and I know about raging. Many women do.

That being said, it's a fantastic song to listen to in the car.

I may rage like a woman, but I drive like a man.
