There's every good reason for letting you go
She's sneaky and smoked out
And it's starting to show

I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go

I'll never let you turn around your back on each other
That's a good idea, break a promise to your mother
Turn around your back on each other

You say that I've changed
Well, maybe I did
But even if I changed
What's wrong with it

I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go

I'll never let you turn around your back on each other
That's a good idea, break a promise to your mother
Turn around your back on each other

And all our friends are gone and gone
And all the time moves on and on
And all I know is it's wrong, it's wrong
And all I know is it's wrong, it's wrong
(It's wrong, it's wrong, it's wrong)

If there's a reason, it's lost on me
Maybe we'll be friends, I guess we'll see

I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go

Turn around your back on each other
That's a good idea, break a promise to your mother
Turn around, let's turn on each other
Good idea, break a promise to your mother
Turn around your back on each other
That's a good idea, break a promise to your mother
Turn around your back on each other
What a good idea

I remember the stupid things, the mood rings, the bracelets and the beads
Nickels and dimes, yours and mine, did you cash in on your dreams?
You don't dream for me, no
You don't dream for me, no
But I still feel you pulsing like sonar from the days in the waves
That girl is like a sunburn
I would like to save
That the girl is like a sunburn
I would like to save
She's like a sunburn
She's like a sunburn

it's likely about an incredible relationship that isn't there anymore. steve (jenkins, the lead singer) begins with "there's every good reason for letting you go" and 'ere too long informs "i never let you go". obviously he realizes that he needs to move on because it's over and there's nothing to do but seek another harbor.

however, the song continues with this conflicted state of mind, because he argues "even if i changed, what's wrong with it?" the lyric is reminiscent of a "take me back" kind of argument. later on, he expresses that he doesn't understand why he can't be together with this super-fly chica. "if there's a reason, it's lost on me" but still allows himself an out, in the interest of adapting himself to the fact that they may never resume the previous relationship. "maybe we'll be friends, i guess we'll see".

the last verse is an amazing form of nostalgia. i love the "i remember the stupid things, the mood rings, the bracelets, and the beads" lines because that's what past relationships eventually become. a letter here, a bracelet there, things that remind us of times that are gone--"you don't dream for me, no". we can still feel that magic every so often, after it's over, if we've found it hard to get over that person. hence "i still feel your pulse like a sonar".

the line that takes the cake for me is "that girl is like a sunburn i would like to save". incredibly poetic.... we can get burned, but we don't want the burn to fade away, because we want to keep that girl (or that guy) in that magical way that she/he once meant to us. once the sunburn's gone, you've learned and don't feel the pain anymore.

so kudos to windchild, because the song really is about change and the road blocks we face along the way to accept it.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
