"I Know" as written by and Page Nye Hamilton....
Water thin
The wall is in
She's chlorine clean and portion fed
Feed the dog
Slop the hog
Shine the baptist and debark the log

It's all right, I know
You're the only one who can
Show us at all

Get it done
What I hear, fear motivates
So intense
So sensitive
In your head where fashion lives

It's all right, I know
You're the only one who can
Show us at all

It's ok, I know
You're mean and hard and bored
It's always something

General CommentThe first two lines of the song are actually:
    Waifer thin
    The waif is in
I don't know exactly, but I feel like this song is about people who have strong opinions about things they have never experienced in life. The imagery used brings to mind a poor woman or man living under a puritan way of life, where it is preached that hard work is the reward by others that had things given to them. Spreading their beliefs and crushing the opposition. I think the song is about someone so convinced that their point of view is the only one, the only way to get away from them is to agree with them, even if you don't.

This is one of my favorite songs on Betty. I signed up so I could correct this lyric.

General CommentBettyforsmut, you are right about the first two lines, I was gonna correct it til I saw you beat me to it!

I've always heard this as a criticism of the self-righteous, of the holier-than-thou types who can't see from another person's point of view.

The important part of the song for me, however, is the musical intro. The build-up creates so much tension, then the noise leaves you out in the open waiting for what comes next. Then the drumbeat drops from about a million stories up, right into such a hard-ass riff, it's incredible. Why doesn't anyone make awesome music like this anymore?
