"The Hive" as written by and Jesper Claes Haakan/gelotte Stroemblad....
April night-time
And we run like muscles through the stagnant nodes of man
Blood-bridges lean towards the gaping synapses
To disarms the stars within us

Hornet Hive-dark
Severed wings in vainless beating
Buzz out from inferno of fangs
To disarms the stars within us

We should have been
So much more by now
Too dead inside
To even know the guilt

Waning Ring-deep
A halo of thorns
Sips now down in the sheets of sharp silver
To disarm the star within us

General CommentThis song is about how human beings have literally become like drones in a beehive. We may work and do everyday business in similar fashion to what most everyone else is doing, but are things really progressing the way we envision it to? Or are we as stagnant and one-track minded as this song suggests?

Yet another thought-provoking concept brought to you by none other than the mighty In Flames...

General CommentDethAndNoncents has a point. the whole song as one seems to say that... however if you isolate the chorus ("We should have been so much more by now Too dead inside to even know the guilt") it seems to represent the many mistakes mankind has made sinvce it was created. think about it. has there been more failure, or achievement in the history of many kind. failure. infact, many of the achievements have resulted in failure. so much for our so called "intellegence"

General CommentI love the fact that IF has a realistic view of mankind, that they don't just sit around and bitch about thier own problems and petty difficulties, and realize that a status quo just won't last.
    Mankind needs a new saviour.

General Commentisn't it so great and refreshing though? In Flames is the new savior...unfortunately they work with metal music, which too me is a bonus, but probably would turn many people off... ah well... yay for realism! \m/

General CommentWe should have been so much more by now, and the mention of failures, doesn't attack WHERE we have failed, it's what we have done, and learned, with the failures we had achieved, in my opinion.

Failure is a necessary component to our understanding of nature and the world; and intelligence . Without failure, we never learn.

Too dead inside means that many of us, and I do believe this is true, that we have lost the ability to think, voice our passion, or even feel passion for certain subjects.

General CommentI agree with deth that it describes our society as a hive and we are the hornets. Also, I think SomeOtherPerson is correct that we have lost the ability to think.
Don't really know what april night-tyme means. My only idea is that april is when we 'run' to get taxes done. The muscles, nodes, blood, synapses are parts of the human body, and it symbolizes how we have lost out abliity to think for ourselves, our individualism. Hence the stars (our unique qualities and good characteristics) have been disarmed. We all just do our jobs as human cells do, and all just serve the brain, or the dictator. We don't think for ourselves anymore. Blood-bridges is just showing how our cities run like body systems.
It is like a dark hornet hive, we all work for the purpose of the hive, but not thinking for ourselves. Our wings have been severed, our abilites and freedom have been severed, but we still beat them in vain. I think the inferno of fangs is the hive, the fangs destroy the stars within us.
I'll get to the chorus in a moment. The third verse is what still confuses me. A halo of thorns make me wonder if it has reference to jesus, but I remember that it is In Flames singing this. Sips now down makes me think of blood oozing out, but sheets of sharp silver makes me think razor blades or something. If anyone figures this out, let me know.
We should have been so much more by now. We had a lot of potential because of our inteligence and each human bean has potential to do great things. But our intelligence got misfired. Too dead inside because ours stars (ability to think) were disarmed. We can't even realize that we destroyed ourselves, and we shouldn't have.
In the Whoracle story, this song is exposition describing this hive-like society. It sets up what will happen in the next few songs.
