tell your mom you need a day off so we can play out in the rain we'll catch a ride to the mall, go down to the arcade cause that's where all the cool kids hang tell your mom you need a day off cause i don't feel like school today we'll ride our boards down the hill and to the playground where everything's ok tell your mom that you'll be home late cause building cabins in the woods is hard work you always know that i'll be here cause summer time is coming near my closest friend you'll always be you are a hometown kid like me tell your mom to make us lunch now cause we worked up an appetite g.i. joes and karate matches in the backyard where everything's all right now i can see that things have changed we've gone our separate ways now and it's not you and me anymore, it's not you and me why can't it be the way it was when pain was only plastic guns my closest friend i couldn't say you are a millionmiles away i guess i'll hold my breath there is no harm in hoping for change.

General Commentbest line "when pain was only plastic guns my closest friend i couldn't say you are a millionmiles away i guess i'll hold my breath there is no harm in hoping for change." this song is somewhat sad if you read the lyrics b/c hes just wishing that things could go back to normal.

General CommentThis can best describe the way things turn out for me with my bestfriends. It's like the time that you lose what started your friendship, the whole thing goes away.

General CommentI cant believe these lyrics didnt get more attention..this was one of the first songs i had ever heard by TJT, and its the reason I began listening to them. It really describes the innocence of youth, and when life was defined as simplicity.."Building Cabins in the woods" I love that line, because It brings be back to a time when I built cabins with my best everything has changed..and Im left with the haunting memorys of how life use to be..where pain was fixed with bandaids..and bestfriends were are whole world..where did those days go?

General CommentI agree with Zoey, why haven't more people eaten up these lyrics?? Gah...This song is powerful, it hits me everytime. The play fights, the forts, and yes, the simplicity, just being and doin' all this stuff with yer best, I'd kill for those days again!!

General CommentI think this song's meaning is about simplicity but it's also about your youth in general. How you can take things for granted and not realize things until their gone. The singer is remembering the fun times he had and wishing he could go back. But looking back on things can only bring sadness and despair. Although when your young, you think you have all the time in the world, time is valuable and make the most of it and be happy with what you have done. This song would connect with a lot of people and like everyone else, i am suprised that this few of peole have posted about it. And also, this is just my interpretation. The beautiful thing about music is that a song means diferent things to different people.

General CommentThis is definately one of my favorite songs by TJT. Everytime I read the lyrics I remember my childhood and how carefree and innocent it was. I think we all have a nastalgia for our childhood, mainly for the simplicity of it. As we grow older and things become more complicated, we want to go back to building our cabins. This song can connect with anyone who remembers their past, and all the neighborhood kids. I don't think looking back on it is bad, because we need it to keep us in check in our lives today.

General CommentDefinitely a song about youth and missing a friend (my guess is that friend was Duane Joseph to the lyricist) from the old days. I grew up down the street from a girl, Morgan Massingale, and we were great friends. We went through everything together...we'd build cabins in the woods, her mom would make us lunch, all the things mentioned in the song. When we were kids, we agreed to marry eachother when we grew up. It was good to get that out of the way, too. I didn't have to worry about how icky girls were, and she didn't have to worry about how icky boys were. Even once we did grow up...a little...we still sort of always had it in our minds that we were going to marry eachother.

Then she died in a car wreck when she was 17.

Sure, there are a couple lines that don't match up exactly, but for the most part this song parallels that whole story. Great song, great lyrics, great band.

General CommentThis song is amazing. I'm actually afraid of my friendship with my best friend going the route this song went. Wow. The Juliana Theory is amazing! So is this song!

Makes me wish I was still a kid.
