This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
[1, 2, 3]
I keep trying to find a life
On my own, apart from You
I am the king of excuses
I've got one for every selfish thing I do
What's going on inside of me?
I despise my own behavior
This only serves to confirm my suspicions
That I'm still a man in need of a Savior
(chorus)
I want to be in the Light
As You are in the Light
I want to shine like the stars in the heavens
Oh, Lord be my Light and be my salvation
Cause all I want is to be in the Light
All I want is to be in the Light
The disease of self runs through my blood
It's a cancer fatal to my soul
Every attempt on my behalf has failed
To bring this sickness under control
Tell me, what's going on inside of me?
I despise my own behavior
This only serves to confirm my suspicions
That I'm still a man in need of a Savior
(repeat chorus)
Honesty becomes me
[There's nothing left to lose]
The secrets that did run me
[In Your presence are defused]
Pride has no position
[And riches have no worth]
The fame that once did cover me
[Has been sentenced to this Earth]
Has been sentenced to this Earth
Tell me, what's going on inside of me?
I despise my own behavior
This only serves to confirm my suspicions
That I'm still a man in need of a Savior
(repeat chorus 2x)
[There's no other place that I want to be]
[No other place that I can see]
[A place to be that's just right]
[Someday I'm gonna be in the Light]
[You are in the Light]
[That's where I need to be]
[That's right where I need to be]
I keep trying to find a life
On my own, apart from You
I am the king of excuses
I've got one for every selfish thing I do
What's going on inside of me?
I despise my own behavior
This only serves to confirm my suspicions

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.

This is the best song that DC Talk has made. Basically, the person in this song is trying to have a personal relationship with God. He says that he such a sinner, which draws him away from God. He mentions that he struggles with life because he attempts to live life by himself, without God.This person wants to change, so he asks for God's acceptance, to be "in his light". The person wants to ber saved and to follow God's will. He finally realizes that he is nothing without God, so he will now attempt to be in the light. God rules!!!
Indeed he does!
"Conspiracynsu" that is the best interpertation of this song that I have ever heard and I believe every word that you have said, God Bless us all.
Its the song of every Christian, no matter how much we try we keep screwing up :( but we just have to keep trying to b in the light :) this is by far my favourite dc talk song.
Gotta agree with ya'll. Chosing a favourite DC Talk song seems impossible, yet it somehow always comes back to this one.
yeah i totall y agree, i seem to fit in so well with the person in the song "i despise my own behavior" so often i find myself hatin what i do but thats cos i'm tryin 2 go it alone with out God and where i really wanna be is in the light
I'm glad that so many people feel the same way as me. No one I know has really ever heard this song, but I just love it so much. It always reminds me of what I'm striving to do and when I feel guilty for my sins it reminds me that everyone messes up and that God will always take me back. It pumps me up to go out in the world and do more for Him, because that's what it's all about anyway.
i believe this is one of the best songs Dc Talk has made. i absolutly love and adore this song. It describes me so perfectly...but then again..doesnt it fit all of us? as our mortal flesh fights, our spirit reliniquishes...to the one true God.
MrReallyBigBadMan: i feel the exact same way. this song (along with Jesus Freak) makes me just want to go out into the world and say " LOOK the true God is here!" and just makes me want to start going out into the world...i love this song so very much.
you are forgetting one thing when you say this is the best Dc Talk song made. because this is a cover. It was originally done by Charlie Peacock.<br /> So while this is a great song it is not the original and I feel the Charlie Peacock version is much better.
This is THE BEST song ever. I mean I never get sick of it because it is always relevant either as a cry out to God because you need him or as a celebration of Gods light. Absolutley AWESOME!!
I agree with Alpha...it's definately like the anthem of every Christian. They played this song during worship at church the other day. That was the first time I've heard it in a while. It's amazing.
