"Life's A Gas" as written by and Marc Bolan....
I could have loved you girl
Like a planet
I could have chained your heart
To a star

But it really doesn't matter at all
No it really doesn't matter at all
Life's a gas,
I hope it's gonna last

I could have built a house
On the ocean
I could have placed your love
In the sky.

But it really doesn't matter at all
No it really doesn't matter at all
Life's a gas,
I hope it's gonna last

I could have turned you
Into a priestess
I could have burned
Your fate in the sand

But it really doesn't matter at all
No it really doesn't matter at all
Life's a gas,

But it really doesn't matter at all
No it really doesn't matter at all
Life's a gas,
I hope it's gonna last

But it really doesn't matter at all
No it really doesn't matter at all
Life's a gas.

My InterpretationI feel like Bolan is saying that we could spend our time dwelling on all of the missed opportunities in our lives, but instead we should just say... Life is an enigma. We don't know why we are all here so, we should just enjoy the rest of our time on the planet because nothing really matters.

General CommentThis is more of a breakup song. It's all about the things you could have done had you been given achance.

General CommentI think Pitchfork described Bolan as being accidentally mystical and poetic, and I kind of have to agree. How do you love a girl like a planet? I don't know, but I think that's a great line.

General CommentBolan's own words "I wrote "Life's a Gas" when I was feeling that life was a lot of fun."

Song MeaningHe really loved this girl but for whatever reason ( she's making a mistake ) she doesn't/won't feel the same way.

BUT it really doesn't matter; lifes has been fine w/ out her in fact she'd prolly just mess it up.

yet the slight feeling of what he thinks could've been. REAL good song.
