"To Tame A Land" as written by and Stephen Percy Harris....
He is the king of all the land
In the Kingdom of the sands
Of a time tomorrow

He rules the sand worms and the Fremen
In a land amongst the stars
Of an age tomorrow

He is destined to be a King
He rules over everything
On the land called planet Dune

Body water is your life
And without it you would die
On the desert the planet Dune

Without a still suit you would fry
On the sands so hot and dry
In a world called Arrakis

It is a land that's rich in spice
The sand riders and the "mice"
That they call the "Muad'Dib"

He is the Kwizatz Haderach
He is born of Caladan
And will take the Gom Jabbar

He has the power to foresee
Or to look into the past
He is the ruler of the stars

The time will come for him
To lay claim his crown
And then the foe yes
They'll be cut down
You'll see he'll be the
Best that there's been
Messiah supreme
True leader of men
And when the time
For judgement's at hand
Don't fret he's strong
And he'll make a stand
Against evil and fire
That spreads through the land
He has the power
To make it all end

General CommentI've never read "Dune", but have seen the horrible movie so I pretty much know what this is about. They originally wanted to call it "Dune", but Frank Hubert didn't let them because he "didn't like metal bands, especially Iron Maiden". Loser.

General CommentThis is the song that got me into Iron Maiden. I'm a huge Dune book fan and a buddy of mine gave me a copy of Iron Maiden's Piece Of Mind CD. He said the last song is about Dune and I said "sure whatever." the song has some funku bass licks that are hard to follow. Still having a hell of a time learning them.

General Comment"On the Piece of Mind album, renowned author Frank Herbert came into conflict with the band when they wanted to record a song named after the book Dune. Not only did Herbert refuse to allow the song to be called "Dune", he also refused to allow a spoken quotation from the book to appear as the track's intro. Bass player Steve Harris's polite request was met with a stern reply from the agent: "No. Because Frank Herbert doesn't like rock bands, particularly heavy rock bands, and especially rock bands like Iron Maiden". This statement was backed up with a legal threat, and eventually the song was renamed "To Tame A Land" and released in 1983."

General CommentI saw Maiden on the Piece of Mind tour. Bruce introduced the song by saying that this was a song based on a book by Frank Herbert, and that he (Herbert) did not want them to call it "Dune," so they called it "To Tame a Land," but Bruce added, "F*ck 'im, tonight we're calling it 'Dune'!!!"

Possibly my favorite Maiden song (there's LOT'S of possibilities). The bass line is INTENSE but easy. If you need help with it, email me... I've been playing since 1982, 'Arry and Geddy Lee are my two main influences/inspirations on bass...
