In the last rays
Of the setting sun
And the past days (yeah)
That's where our memories run
And all of those times
Still race through my mind
I'm shattered inside to find

When the night comes down
And I'm here all alone
When the night comes down
There's nowhere to go

Call me and I'll wait 'til the summer
You never understood
Then I will wait forever
For a love that's only good

As the light starts to dim
The fear closes in
And the nightmares begin

When the night comes down
And I'm here all alone
When the night comes down
And there's no place to go

Oh, no, you won't be there tomorrow
Oh, no, say it isn't true

I can't take this pain and sorrow
Oh, can't you see my heart is broken in two

I'm shattered inside to find

When the night comes down
And I'm here all alone
When the night comes down
And there's no place to go

When the night comes down
And I'm here all alone
When the night comes down
And there's no place to go

Beautiful song. My 2nd fave off Defenders Of The Faith next to The Sentinel.

I like the distant scream behind the chorus - it's subtle but quite effective.

This song is a great example of priest's ability to create wonderfully emotional soundscapes. This song draws me in every time. This song is one of the gems that only real priest fans know about, and where thier respect for priest comes from. Most people don't know anything besides "You've got another thing comin'" and don't look any deeper into priest's music before calling them a crappy band. I think the comercially successful preist tracks are probally the weakest in thier catalogue. Songs like this are what has kept me faithful to the band for 20 years.

Can't believe I'm the first to comment about this song on this site in a decade! Anyway, have always loved this song, very emotional. Don't really have an "inside interpretation" of what it's about other than there does seem to be a general feeling of deep loneliness and despair about it both in the lyrics, singing and in the music itself. Oh, about the line written, "Oh, say I'm trying inside to fight" after the guitar solo: I think that is incorrect, unless of course it's coming from the album lyric sleeve. I believe he's repeating the same line at the end of the first verse only with the slight change of putting an "Ooh" on it so it's "Ohhhh, shattered inside, to find." That just makes a WHOLE lot more sense to me than the other line IMO. I think the lyrics may have been transcribed by ear and that was just a simple mistake - again, just my opinion, not trying to start an argument here. Anyway, I really think the boys were at the top of their game here and did a brilliant job of making an emotional statement through this song.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
