Don't fear,
Even though you're at a loss.

I'm numb,
A shell of empty thoughts.

But you glow,
You stretch and pull me out.

Does that trouble you?
Does that trouble you?

Love me
Hate me
Make me live again

I need you around
Heal me
Hurt me

Make me live again
I want you around
So long,
I never had experienced
This bliss.

So how could I resist?
And I'm fine
A little light-headed.

Does that worry you?
I didn't mean to worry you.

Now, retreating from the light
I love it when we fight
It makes me think
At least you still care

Give up, you're not going anywhere
Moonlight, illuminates your stare
And it's great, captivating you
Does that trouble you?
I didn't mean to trouble you

This is the I choose for my wife and I as "Our Song". It completely expresses my feelings for her. I could never imagine life with out her around, thus I need her to make me feel alive. It doesn’t matter if we’re upset or happily going about our business, she makes life worth living.

On their site on the live version he said it's about when someones hurt you or whatever, and kinda staying at home drowing in self pity, and finally getting past that.

"It's about staying in your house for several weeks feeling sorry for yourself when someone has kicked your ass, broken your heart. And it's about leaving your house finally and getting your self-respect back. Enough said." --Kevin Griffin, House of Blues, New Orleans

I think this is about his first experience with love, and it being unreciprocated, but they were friends.

and he would constantly want more, and she would constantly want to be friends.

and he would go back and forth between wanting to be the best he could be for her, and absolutely hating her because he wasn't good enough for her.

and when it all came down to it, they needed each other to be there, they needed each other around.

personally, the first person I fell in love with made me grow exponentially as a person, I felt like I was alive for the first time, and for the first time in my life, I started setting goals and going for them, making something of myself, if for no other reason then that futile hope that I might at some point be good enough for her.

and while that never happened, I still needed her, I needed her around to have that motivation, and she needed me around for the same reason.

I think that's what this song is about.

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about someone who is fighting falling in love. Maybe they haven't felt love in a very long time. Perhaps the words of this song is directed at the one who loves them and they are constantly trying to run from it, but then they start to like the idea. It is mentioned, (Love me, hate me. Make me live again. I need you around.) Even though this person runs from the attention, they are aware of the fact that they need it. The song started out with- (Don't fear, even though your at a loss. I'm numb, a shell of empty thoughts.) This could possibly be the loveless one who recognizes that the one who loves them is bothered by their passiveness and to not fear possibly because the loveless one is starting to maybe feel again. (But you glow, You stretch and pull me out.) That is the one who loves...they glow or exude love and has challenged the one who became numb to feel again. (Does that trouble you? Does that trouble you?) Perhaps that is the reaction of the loveless one to Love, thinking...am I worth this, will you stick with me even though I hold back? (Heal me, hurt me. Make me live again.) This is the loveless one who realizes that to feel love is to take a chance of being hurt. Heal me, is to be loved. The loveless one is asking to be loved because healing will come. (So long, I never had experienced, this bliss.) This is where one could get the idea that the loveless once loved...So long...maybe long ago they did experience love or what they call bliss. (So how could I resist? and I'm fine. A little light headed.) This could be one feeling that it is hard to resist love when they know its true. So they are fine & the light headed feeling is them allowing themselves to feel love from another and maybe they could possibly be starting to love back. (Does that worry you? I didn't mean to worry you.) That is the loveless one that realizes that it concerns the one who loves them, but they continue to try to shake love off by staying composed..."I'm fine". (Now retreating from the light, I love it when we fight, it makes me think, At least you still care.) Retreating from the light could possibly mean that you are still running away from the one who loves you, and it ends up causing fights. Loveless one realizes that if their partner didn't care, they wouldn't bother to fight. They wouldn't be questioned for their actions or lack thereof. (Give up, your'e not going anywhere. Moonlight, illuminates your stare. And it's great, captivating you. Does that trouble you? I didn't mean to trouble you.) This is Loveless continuing to push away Love...Give up, your not going anywhere. Maybe Loveless trying to convince Love that you will not penetrate this heart. Although Loveless pulls away, it makes one happy to know that Love is captivated by them. Does that trouble you is perhaps Loveless wondering if Love will stick with oneself. Loveless wants to live again. Loveless wants to Love. To Live is to Love and To Love is to Live! <3 Let Love in when you know its true. <3

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
