This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
Maybe I should drop you at your door.
Or leave tonight and vanish up the shore.
Anywhere but here.
It's three o'clock we're driving in your car,
You're screaming out the window at the stars,
"Please don't drive me home!"
Blame us because we are who we are.
Hate us because you'll never get that far.
And who'd suppose you would go?
I've already learned enough to know.
Tell me all the places we could go.
And count the headlights passing on the road,
A long, long time ago.
Here we are.
Foreign to their world.
Straight and composed.
Your sermons I can do without
And I finally found.
That everybody loves to love you
When you're far away.
Could it be we've done something wrong
We'd make it back to your place before dawn
"Please, don't take me home."
"Please, don't take me home."

Just A Little Lovin'

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
Midnight
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms.
“Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.

i think this part is about two lovers. their date ended, but the girl really doesn't want him to take her home yet. they're both feeling sad, they're tired of everyone and everything around them. and she doesn't want to go home.
It's three o'clock we're driving in your car, You're screaming out the window at the stars, "Please don't drive me home!"
they're just driving around, looking at the stars and talking. doing absolutely nothing.
Blame us because we are who we are. Hate us because you'll never get that far. And who'd suppose you would go? I've already learned enough to know.
everybody thinks of them as "different" and they don't really fit in.
Tell me all the places we could go. And count the headlights passing on the road, A long, long time ago.
they're still just driving around aimlessly, getting ready to leave the city.
Here we are. Foreign to their world. Straight and composed. Your sermons I can do without And I finally found. That everybody loves to love you When you're far away.
the last part of this is amazing!!! "and i finally found that everybody loves to love you, when you're far away" people don't appreciate things until they're gone. when people move away, everybody is constantly calling and emailing to check on them, wants to see them again, wants to visit them, etc. you are more appreciated when you're not with you're friends/family.
Could it be we've done something wrong We'd make it home to your place before dawn "Please, don't take me home." "Please, don't take me home."
(:
This song means soooo much to me. In the summer the drives to the NJ shore were sooo memorable. Cruising in the Trans with the tops down, what great times we had. Nobody ever seemed to want to go home, even when we had nothing to do, just driving around was a great time.
Yeah, i know what you mean. Me and this girl I was seeing used to drive around at 2 or so at night and just go nowhere. We'd have all the windows down and we would just cruise around till morning. It felt like we were the only people in the world, and nothing mattered, accept that we couldnt keep the sun down. It makes me feel good just thinking about it
I can totally relate this song to this last summer, with a guy friend of mine...we both just wanted to get away from everyone and everything. We wanted to just be anywhere but home. And we would drive around, just doing nothing, and it meant so much. I would often look at the stars, and think of the song :). Anyway, the lead singer actually wrote the song about, when he was 14 or 15, he had a girlfriend who he'd pick up really late at night and they'd just go drive around, not wanting to go home. :).
this song is just perfect...it reminds me of spock and me drivin around into the night with no worries, nothin, just me and him and the stars...ry i miss ya...
to me like most of you this song relates me back to summer time just kinda drivin around with friends, real late at night, feeling invincable, feeling alive. with nobody wanting to go home, there were some nights when we didn't we just kinda drove around all night long.
howie day sings this song too...it's great...summer definitely
this song means more than just driving though...it represents breaking away and finally being free and being yourself...I love it. It's a beautiful song and it means a lot to me
awesome song.
this song is one of my favorites...it's such a summer song and reminds me of so many wonderful memories...it's enough to make me cry. my favorite part is "and i finally found that everybody loves to love you when you're far away"
