"In The Beginning" as written by Peter Gabriel, Anthony Banks, Anthony Edwin Phillips and Michael Rutherford....
Ocean of motion
Squirming around and up and down
Pushing together
Scattering mountains all around you
That is the sound of a new born world
And a light from a curious sky
It has begun
You're in the hands of destiny

Thrashing with violence
Hurling its lava up and down
Furnace of frenzy
Burning with power uncontrolled
That is the sound of a new born world
And the light from a curious sky
It has begun
You're in the hands of destiny

Is that the chariot with stallions gold
Is that a prince of heaven on the ground
Is that the roar of a thunderflash
This is my world and it's waiting to be crowned
Father, son, looks down with happiness, life is on its way

Ocean of motion
Squirming around and up and down
Pushing together
Scattering mountains all around you
That is the sound of a new born world
And a light from a curious sky
It has begun
You're in the hands of destiny

Is that the chariot with stallions gold
Is that a prince of heaven on the ground
Is that the roar of a thunderflash
This is my world and it's waiting to be crowned
Father, son, looks down with happiness, life is on its way

General CommentThis one is more in line with Jonathan King's suggested biblical history of mankind concept. In the beginning is the first three words of the book of Genesis "In the beginning God created heaven and earth." Genesis is a latin word, from the greek word meaning "The coming into being of something, the origin". Certainly Genesis, along with Gong, The Moody Blues, King Crimson, Yes, ELP, and Pink Flyd amongst others would define a generational cultural movement that would define a new music that progressed beyond mere rock or pop. The book of Genesis is, in turn, the first book of the Old testament. These lyrics speak of a world not made randomly, but one that is in the hands of destiny. Some speak of "the guiding hand of fate". This topic alone can lead to endless discussions on the nature of free will. Who is this "prince of heaven on the ground?" In some stories, Lucifer the Morningstar came down on a lightning bolt. This would make sense with the way earliest man probably discovered fire. In other stories Lucifer is equated with Prometheus, who brought fire to man. This is before life, apparently and father and son (God and Christ?) look down in happiness that it is on it's way...
