"Handle This" as written by and Deryck Jason/baksh Whibley....
You said it once before
You don't do those things you used to anymore,
You say in doubt, we're fading out
Forgetting who we used to be.

[Chorus]
Cause I will bring you down,
I don't want to miss, I don't think you can handle this,
You've lost what you can't find, never what you had in mind.

You take it with a smile, it's so easy when you're always in denial,
Just in time, but out of line,
I can't make all the same mistakes you want me to.

[Chorus]

You're giving up, you know it's not what you need,
And it's true what your going through, try so hard not to listen to, everything I never say.

[Chorus]

I'm getting over, getting use to, and after all that I put you through, now I see,
I'm not the only one,
Never thought it would ever come to, this in fact was never what you wanted from me,
Or how you meant it to be

General CommentReally? That's not at all how I interpreted this song.

To me it's about losing yourself. It's from the point of view of a concerned friend (or partner I guess), watching as a person seems to be losing themself, fading out, not doing the things they used to do. When it says "I will bring you down" I don't think it means literally that they're gonna hurt them, but more that they're angry because they're hurting themselves, and theyr'e trying to help them. And that person's in denial. They're giving up, they're ignoring you, they've lost something and they don't even know what it is. The concerned friend is frustrated and says they're sick of getting used to this, they're not gonna just accept it, and they're not gonna just do the same thing and make all the same mistakes, they're gonna keep trying. This is one of my favorite songs on the album.

General CommentHave to agree with narsil... the song is definitely to a friend. I see the "I will bring you down/ I don't want to miss, I don't think you can handle this" as being like... they're losing their true self in looking for something ("You've lose what you can't find, it's never what you had in mind") and don't even realize it, and the songwriter is going to bring them down from this sort of power trip or sense of denial that they're going through. The friend can see that they can't handle what they're doing to themselves, and just wants to help them, even if it seems like it would be hurting them at the time. I agree that this is one of the best on the album.

General Commentbefore sum 41 preformed this at the concert, Deryck and Dave had just had a guitar contest, where Cone butt in, and Cone won the contest. they then said, "This next song is about 2 girls making out and video taping it...and Cone gets to watch the vid twice because he won!" that was weird, because i didn't think that's what Handle This was really about...lol. I have to definately agree with narsil and sweetest siren on this one.

"I'm getting over getting used to,
And after all that I put you through now I see I'm not the only one.- I never thought It'd ever come to,
This in fact was never what you wanted from me or how you meant it to be." she always thinks im gunna be there but i had enough... she remindes me of crazy amanda too ;-)

General CommentBillabong, that's not what they meant, that's not what the song is ABOUT, but uh they did have two girls come on stage and make out during the song once. It's on their DVD. The song isn't about that, they just feel like it's a good song.. for that. lol. *shrug*
