"One More Robot/Sympathy 3000-21" as written by Dave Fridmann, Wayne Coyne, Steven Drozd and Michael Ivins....
Unit three thousand twenty one is warming
Makes a humming sound, when its circuits
Duplicate emotions, and a sense of coldness detaches
As it tries to comfort your sadness,
One more robot learns to be something more than
A machine, when it tries the way it does, make it seem
Like it can love

Cause it's hard to say what's real, when you know the
Way you feel, is it wrong to think it's love
When it tries the way it does

Feeling a synthetic kind of love
Dreaming a sympathetic wish,
As the lights blink faster and brighter,
One more robot learns to be something more than
A machine, when it tries the way it does, make it seem
Like it can love

Cause it's hard to say what's real, when you know the
Way you feel, is it wrong to think it's love
When it tries the way it does

General CommentOf course this is a concept album and there is a literal interpretation of the song that is about this robot beginning to have emotions...

To me, It feels like you could take the robot to be representing a person. I think a robot beginning to show emotion is a beautiful analogy for a person coming out of their shell and loving for the first time, unsure of their emotions and what they mean.

My InterpretationWayne Coyne has said that the robots from 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots' are supposed to represent a young Japanese girl's battle with cancer. So maybe the 'robot' in this song is a cancer cell, reacting to some treatment and no longer attacking the little girl's body.

    I found this quote:
"There's the real world and then there's this fantastical world. This girl, the Yoshimi character, is dying of cancer. And these two guys are battling to come visit her in the hospital. And as one of the boyfriends envisions trying to save the girl, he enters this other dimension where Yoshimi is this Japanese warrior and the pink robots are an incarnation of her disease. It's almost like the disease has to win in order for her soul to survive. Or something like that." - Wayne Coyne

General CommentThis album is fantastic. I love that it tells a story--and about a little girl fighting robots, no less.

This song, in particular, is one the best, though. Aside from sounding great, the lyrics discuss the feelings of a robot made to feel emotion, which could easily be ridiculous, but it's a little touching.

General CommentI don't think the robot was made to feel emotion, but somehow it's beginning to anyway. It's trying to feel love, and it seems that way, but its hard to say what's real.

General CommentI just noticed thatthe song is based off of the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand. Its about an ultra-communist society in the future in which people couldnt express emotions or speak their mind, and had their entire futures predetermined for them by "councils". And all of the people had names similar to Sympathy 3000-21, such the protaginist's name Equality 7-2521. In the story he's a streetsweeper who discovers hidden ancient inventions (from our present time) and when the "Council" finds out, he's banished. And the story goes on...

Just thought you guys would find that interesting.

General CommentI always thought it had something to do with "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K. Dick. Anyways it is a lovely slice of flaming lips pie. With Ice Cream. And strawberries. I'm hungry.
