i'd drive all day to be with you
all day to be black and blue
all day to be face to face
and watch you turn away
theres no way ever turning back
you'll say nothings left in tact
and i'll scream along with all the songs
the radio played all day

i've given up i dont give a fuck
i'm tired of being ordinary
i've given up i dont give a fuck
turning away
i've giving up i dont give a fuck
i'm tired of being ordinary
i'll be okay.

i'd drive all day just to find myself
away around with no one else
i'm free under the california sun
wasting away

i've given up i dont give a fuck
i'm tired of being ordinary
i've given up i dont give a fuck
turning away
i've giving up i dont give a fuck
i'm tired of being ordinary
i'll be okay.

Every days another day
i can't complain
i feel no pain
every days another day
a big mistake
i'm wide awake
i'm wide awake

i've given up i dont give a fuck
i'm tired of being ordinary
i've given up i dont give a fuck
turning away
i've giving up i dont give a fuck
i'm tired of being ordinary
i'll be okay.
i'll be okay
i'd drive all day
i'll be okay
i'd drive all day
i'll be okay
i'd drive all day
i'll be okay

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
