"Foggy Notion" as written by and Maureen Tucker Lou Reed....
She's over by the corner
Got her hands by her sides
They hit her harder harder harder
Till they thought she might die

Well I got a foggy notion,
Do it again
Over by the corner,
Do it again
I got my calamine lotion baby,
Do it again
I got a foggy notion,
Do it again

She made me do something
That I never did before
I rushed right down
To a flower store
I bought her a bundle
A beautiful batch
Don't you know something,
She sent 'em right back

Sally Mae, Sally Mae,
Sally Mae, Sally Mae
Sally Mae, Sally Mae,
Sally Mae, Sally Mae

My OpinionI figured it was another song about junk - The calamine lotion bit caught my ear - calamine lotion is used to relieve itching (pruritus is a side-effect of opioids) Then I thought about another VU track Here She Comes Now - another song about junk - here Lou refers to heroin as a female - a lot a lot a lot of what he wrote about was scoring, getting high, the high, the come down, the whole shebang.

she's over by the corner (where drugs are commonly sold in the city)
hitting harder, harder, harder (people will do their drugs with such gusto you'd think invented it)
and her indifference to his affection regarding the flowers, regardless of how much you love your poison it will never love you back, so you hit harder harder harder and keep chasing

    just my 2 cents tho

General CommentAccording to an article by Paul Williams in the Velvet Underground Companion Book, it's about trying to rouse a girl from an amphetamine overdose. Yet what's being described, while it could be a heroin overdose being described, it really doesn't fit a meth or speed overdose.

General CommentAllegedly, the song's about a girl who is too dopey and nodding off in a corner, so her boyfriend slaps her around to wake her up but she thinks he's just beating her cause he's an asshole, so she gets angry and stops talking to him; he then goes out to get her flowers but she wants none of it.

General CommentI don't think it has anything to do with the girl being dopey. Maybe just not agreeing with the guy? Also, why is it "they" instead of "he"?

General CommentSounds like it's about bein' drunk, hitting your girlfriend, feeling bad about it later and trying to make it up to her by getting her flowers but her having been hit so badly, she will not accept them.

BUT i like to think it has a cooler meaning that this literal one.
