"All For You" as written by Michael Turner, Michael Maida, Jeremy Taggart, Duncan Coutts and Jamie Edwards....
A suburban man
At my door
But I don't think I'll let him in
He wants discipline
Discipline
Control over the way I live

He wants the best for me
Old school philosophy
So I can't turn my back on him
He'd buy me anything
But I just need a friend

[Chorus]
It's all for you
You've got me where you want
It's all for you, oh
Just stop breaking my heart
You're the blood, I'm the seed
And it's all that I need
You've got me where you want
It's all for you, oh
You've got me, oh, you've got me

Jack Kerouac
Kerouac
On the road and in my head
I need relevance
Intelligence
A new tattoo and lots more sex

Broken families
Are the new enemies
And you will not make up for this
This suburban man
He wants discipline
Discipline
But I just need a friend

[Chorus]

Where you want

Alone
Leave me alone

It's all for you
You've got me where you want
It's all for you, oh
Just stop breaking my heart

[Chorus]

It's all for you
(Just stop breaking my heart) [Repeat x6]

Leave me alone

General Commentanyone who grew up in the 'burbs should relate to this song. i know the 'suburban man...' lyric is only a small part of the song, but it says so much, part of what makes OLP so kick-ass.

General Commentwow, this song hasnt been talked about in a while.. ;) but i JUST found this site.. and actually saw OLP in concert the summer this cd was released.. and as usual, waited outside by their bus to hang out with the band after the concert (SO cool how they hang out with their fans afterwards) anyways, i had a copy of most of the songs on the cd before it came out (it wasnt out before the concert) and i was actually wondering on the meaning of this song - so i asked raine.. and indeed, the song is about his father.

My InterpretationI'd say that this song looks at the Freudian divisions of the human psyche: the suburban man is the superego, what society expects us to be. The Jack Kerouac segment is the opposite, the impulsive id. In the middle of this battlefield is the ego, the "I."
