If you can't stand upon the water I will see you on the ocean floor,
When you blink do you only find the misery between the lines?
Then take my hand and walk with me.
Come to me, your sanctuary,
I'll gladly accept the gift that I've been granted.
If you feel fine, give it just a little time,
I'm sure you'll contract my disease.

-Look what you've done to me now, you've made me perfect, look what you've done to me now..

If you can't stand upon the Earth then I will see you on the other side,
When you blink do you only find the misery weighs down your eyes?
Then take my hand and sleep with me.

-Look what you've done to me now, you've made me perfect, look what you've done to me now..

Take my hand, I'll be everything to you,
Take my hand, I'll take everything from you,
I will seep under your skin, I will,
I will hold onto your heart, I will.

-Look what you've done to me now, you've made me perfect, look what you've done to me now...(x2?)

General CommentReligion is a major motif for AFI. This song at first seems to be almost mocking Christianity, but the way i see it, it is, while not a Christian song, quite affirming to the faith. He (maybe Jesus) Says that he can be sanctuary and help to ease the pain. He gladly accepts the gift (absolving of sins), but also laments "Look what you've done to me now, you've made me perfect," which could refer to th crusification. I dunno, and i'm not saying this is a "god song," but that is kinda the way i see it.

General CommentAgreed that religions is a recurring theme behind many AFI songs, but I see the song a different way. I see this song as a cry from one who finds no comfort in religion or faith. "If you can't stand upon the water I will see you on the ocean floor". To me thats kind of like saying, if you can'y see Jesus as divine or whatever if you can't see the miracle of faith then you are doomed, in this case drowning. Also the line, "If you feel fine, give it just a little time Im sure youll contract my disase". Here, I think he is saying that even if you are comfortable in your faith if you actually take the time to question your beliefs you will find less comfort in them and become lost. I think lyrically this is my favorite AFI song, as this could easily have been a cry eminating from my own sleepless meanderings into the deep of consciousness.

General CommentI actually thought of this song to be about a person who's only going out with another because of pity, but then loses interest because of how horrible they really were..

But I can see the christianity thing now. Maybe my low self-esteem is making me lose my train of thought..

    Its a good song though.

General CommentThis song may be about religion, but I think it is about vampires. The disease he mentions is being a vampire, but it is also recieved as a gift that he will take, "take my hand" meaning he will make whoever is suffering into a vampire also, if they want to. The blood he gives will "seep under your skin" and make that person perfect, like him.

You can think it means something else, but I think this makes the best of sense, if you read exsanguination, I explan how that could be about vampires also. Vampires seem to intrigue Davey, and there many songs that refer to them.

General CommentThis song is about a person that you love dearly and would do anything for. To have them would complete you("Look what you've done to me now, you've made me perfect"). But you are so afraid of trying to embrace this person, perhaps because you fear rejection and being hurt like you've been before. Maybe you're even afraid that you'll accidently hurt this person, that you'll make them just like you("I'm sure you'll contract my disease."), someone who is dependent on someone elses love to survive. " Take my hand, I'll be everything to you,
Take my hand, I'll take everything from you,
I will seep under your skin, I will,
I will hold onto your heart, I will."
You're afraid that you might bring down this person you care for and admire so much.

This song is about the insecurities you encounter when you want to let someone so seemingly perfect and special to you know you care about them. In a way, this song also says to me that you can't love someone else until you love yourself. if you're not comfortable with who you are, how can you embrace someone else?

General CommentThat and the trust you have for this person as a person, lover and friend, right? From all the different perspectives this person is viewed, the one that matters is the one that conveys the deepest love and affection. Nothing can take it away from them.

General CommentYa, I think this song is about someone making the singer feel so good, that in a way they've actually made them feel bad. In the end he's like "What have you done?! What have you done?!" like...he's become infatuated with this person he wants so badly that it's scaring him.

General Commenti think everyone pretty much got it right, i can't explain it better. I am new to AFI but i'm really starting to like them a lot. I'v gotten so sick of shitty lyrics, and trying to find a band that can really write.
