"The Dark Ride" as written by and Roland Grapow....
All board step right this way
The dark ride is leaving soon
Just sign your name on the dotted line
All I want is just your soul
Tighten your belt and lets go
Standing in line to get to the fairground
Heading to the wicked side
One way ticket, there is no returning
Leave your soul at the gates

Out of doubt, no hope
Satan feeds our madness
Insanity confirms where we stand
Spit the red vile breath and
Wrath is our gift that
Leads direct to armageddon

Take a place - on the dark ride
Slowly creeping up - quickly coming down
Take a spin on the dark ride
May too far from the other side

Step inside and take this final journey
Your fantasies will come true
Inclination without liberation
Lifes carousel is catching you

Even through the darkest phase
Be it thick or thin
I'm your pain when you can't feel
Driven to our final fate
Jump out of this game

Take a place - on the dark ride
Slowly creeping up - quickly coming down
Take a spin on the dark ride
May too far from the other side

Is there any wonder?
Why we came about
Was it for love?
Or to let sin abound
Isn't it a wonder
Awake from blood thick dreams
Remove all the stones from our hearts
We must all believe

Ohhh, will we find a way to the other side
Heading for a light
Who is holding the key, why can't we see
The dark ride

I force the engine of your deadly sins
Even through the darkest phase
Be it thick or thin
I'm your pain when you can't feel
I know too well you'll follow me, you follow me down

Is there any wonder?
Why we came about
Was it for love?
Or to let sin abound
Isn't it a wonder
Awake from blood thick dreams
Remove all the stones from our hearts
We must all believe

General CommentI wonder why no one has commented on this song yet.
I think this song is about how life breaks and crushes people. "The dark ride" itself is about some, uh, substances that change our perception ;)
"Tighten your belt and let's... GO!"

General CommentIt's sounds like the dark ride has a double meaning as being a roller coaster and a trip to hell, or a roller coaster taking us to hell. I hope you understand what I mean.

    General CommentYea i agree with Xanofar, at the begining it sounds like leader of circus is calling you to join the dark ride, like satan he is promesing you, seducing you;

"Step inside and take this final journey- your fantasies will come true..."

this line fascinates me the most:

"One way ticket, there is no returning
Leave your soul at the gates"

    Long live helloween

"Slowly creeping up - quickly coming down"
im sure he is talking about rolercoaster

"May too far from the other side"
    like: very close to death

General CommentTheManna, I guess you've never experienced the 'high' from drugs. That's what they call 'slowly creeping up - quickly coming down'. It's pretty much like a roller coaster ride.

And once you take drugs for the first time, there is no turning back - once opened, your mind will never be the same again.

General CommentWell, you also have to take into account what had happened to the band when the album The Dark Ride was released. Basically, the drummer had died: I think he commited suicide because he had several problems, i did read something about drug problems as well. After his death, they released the album The Time of the Oath as a commemoration to his death, containing a lot of balads and slow songs, and then, this album. Considering this, I'm more inclined to TheManna's interpretation of a deeper meaning than just the consequeces of drugs: a representation of evil and sad things in life.
