"Drunk Sincerity" as written by and Greg Graffin....
The smell of virgin pages wafted through the swinging doors
And the croaking speech he'd heard from countries counselors before
They said "we all care for you, we know how you suffer
But I know you can succeed, I used to have it so much rougher"

There's hope in the words and emotion in the eyes
It's so easy to be misled by the savvy gentle guise
And like fools we trust the delivery
But it's all just drunk sincerity

In maternal family assembly poised regarding the blue tube
The numbers crept up higher and the hawks stayed out of view
Then the generals said "we don't want our boys dead
Your sons and your husbands will be coming back heroes soon"

With steam, heat, and rhythm in the back seat of the car
And adolescent perspective projecting life's forecast to the stars
You heard love from the lips and you were rapt by the hips
And the promise was eternal but you couldn't see that far

General Commenthippypippypunkska, i too thought there would be heaps of people commenting on this one. One of my many favourite BR songs. My favourite in this is song is the last stanza, reminds me of my ex-gf who said she'd always love me, haha that "adolescent perspective" for you.

General CommentIts about how we are hoodwinked and herded by the media and institutional leaders (teachers, churches, etc...) We are provided with goals that we are supposed to want and attain. It speaks to the awkward teenage years of trying to make a name and find your place.

General CommentI think it's also about how when people say something, they think they mean it, but they are fooling themselves - "there's hope in the words, and emotion in the eyes, it's so easy to be misled by savvy gentle guise"

General Comment"it's so easy to be misled by the savvy gentle guise and like fools we trust the delivery"
this line basically summs up how anybody can preach almost any idea to anyone, no matter however against it they would be, as long as they deliver it right. people can be intoxicated with the speaker's way with words and they will agree unquestioningly. [see hitler :P]

General CommentIt's about fallacies, basically. Doesnt matter if you believe it or not, that wont change the fact that it's a lie. No matter what you say, no matter how you say it, or how much you truly believe it- it can always end up as a lie.
