"A Child With The Ghost" as written by and Gary Anthony James Webb....
Nothing I can say
Can make your picture talk
I feel so tired and
Nothing I can do
Will make your picture move
I feel so helpless but
I can feel
A child with the ghost here
You let your heart slip away

If I had one wish
I'd wish to talk with you
I have some questions
Things only you could know
If I had one wish
I'd wish to talk with you
Nothing you can feel
Can feel as cold as this
I'll sing this song and
I'll say goodbye forever

I wonder
If God is all they say
I can't believe in such things.
I suppose
Some games are hard to lose
But you don't have to play 'cause
I can feel
A child with the ghost here
You let your heart slip away

If I had one wish
I'd wish to talk with you
I have some questions
Things only you could know
If I had one wish
I'd wish to talk with you
Nothing you can feel
Can feel as cold as this
I'll sing this song and
I'll say goodbye forever

Sometimes my mind remembers

Sometimes my mind remembers

If I had one wish
I'd wish to talk with you
I have some questions
Things only you could know
If I had one wish
I'd wish to talk with you
Nothing you can feel
Can feel as cold as this

If I had one wish
I'd wish to talk with you
I have some questions
Things only you could know
If I had one wish
I'd wish to talk with you
Nothing you can feel
Can feel as cold as this
I'll sing this song and
I'll say goodbye forever

General CommentIt's true that this song was dedicated to Paul, but it has even deeper meaning to me even beyond the obvious.

Gary Numan wrestles often with the fact that he does not believe in God. His best friend dying obviously hit him hard and he had to come to grips with the fact, in his point of view, that Paul didn't move on to a "better place". He would never again have the opportunity to talk to him. Find out why he did the things he did, tell him how he felt about him or say goodbye in person.

It conveys the sorrow of a person who sees death as an Ultimate End, with no further opportunities for communication or redemption. Also the frustration at other's mistaken (again, his POV) beliefs that there is an afterlife. I love the line "Some games are hard to lose" meaning (to me) that the belief in God is a convenient crutch to so many people and then "But you don't have to play" -- belief in God is not a requisite thing, like so many seem to think it is.

Finally, "You let your heart slip away" feels to me like a parting shot at his old friend for giving in to his demons and submitting to death.

General CommentI agree with xl5ron. Paul Gardiner was a very good bass player and never really got the recognition he deserved. He and Cedric Sharpley made one incredible rhythm section on The Pleasure Principle, Telekon, and Living Ornaments '79 albums.

General CommentI'd do this for my girl

Give her your hoodie even if you go to different schools.

Give her a big tshirt of yours to sleep in.

    Leave her cute text messages.

Kiss her in front of your friends.

    Tell her she looks beautiful.

Look into her eyes when you talk to her.

Let her mess with your hair.

    Just walk around with her.

Call her every night just to hear her voice

    Forgive her for her mistakes.

Look at her like she's the only girl you see.

Hold her hand when you're around your friends and in private

Let her fall asleep in your arms.

Watch her favorite movie with her even if its the gayest chick flick ever.

Come up and grab her by the waist

    Remember this:
Don't talk about other girls around her. If you love her, others shouldn't matter.

When she's sad, hang out with her.

    Let her know she's important.

Kiss her in the pouring rain.

When you fall in love with her, tell her.

And when you tell her, love her like you've never loved someone before.

Answer her phone calls no matter what.

Guys repost as: I'd do this for my girl.

    Girls repost as: Perfect boyfriend.

If you don't repost this in four minutes you will lose the one you love

If you do repost this in four minutes the one you like/love will:
    -call you
    -mesg you
    -txt you
