"Babylon" as written by and Ivan A./benjamin Matias....
I came into this world high as a bird
From second hand cocaine powder
I know it sounds absurd
I never tooted but its in my veins
While the rest of the country bungies off bridges
Without no snap back
And bitches they say they need that
To shake they fannies in the ass clubs
They go the other route
Turn each other out
Burn each other out
Where a bona fide nigga like me
Can't even get no back rub these days
Ain't that bleak on they part
But let me hold it down, cause they shut you down
When you speak from your heart
Now that's hard
While we ranting and raving bout gats
Nigga, they made them gats
They got some shit that'll blow out our backs
From where they stay at

Ooh, I fear the battle's just begun
Ooh, though we're here someday we will be gone
So I'm hoping, wishing, praying
To keep my faith in you, in you

I'm fascinated by the way yo
Nipples peak at me through yo blouse
Freaky me, freaky you
Can't help but be aroused
'Scuse me, Lord lustful thinking
But that's the way we was brought up
Sneaking to watch Playboy at night
We all must be caught up in worldly ways
Chemistry between boys and girls
Is a lot like when we went to the woods
And laid with the squirrels
During P.E., we'd be
Exploring each others privates
Hunching with all our clothes on
Until we felt excited then, ah
Oh now its on from here on out
Put yo hands in the atmosphere
If you know what I'm talking bout
Now if too harsh then walk on out
And I'll see you on the next song
They call it horny
Because its devilish
Now see we dead wrong

Ooh, I fear the battle's just begun
Ooh, though we're here someday we will be gone
So I'm hoping, wishing, praying
To keep my faith in you, in you

People don't know the stress I'm dealing with day to day
Speaking about the feeling I'm possessing for Renee
Moping around and wondering where she stay
Saw her last that she lay
Give it another day I say
But the lord he taketh away
Now give it back lawd
Cause that's like backboards without the rims
Me and my auntie was tight like Southwest
Before the pinks moved in
Like the niggas who owned the liquor store
Crack cocaine, pimps and whores
Living up on this earth
Before a nigga like daddy was born
But they be making it seem
That my music and crime are a team
But I'm speaking the truth not dreams
So what in the fuck they mean
My lyrics ain't clean

Ooh, I fear the battle's just begun
Ooh, though we're here someday we will be gone
So I'm hoping, wishing, praying
To keep my faith in you, in you

Ooh, I fear the battle's just begun
Ooh, though we're here someday we will be gone
So I'm hoping, wishing, praying
To keep my faith in you, in you

General CommentThis song shows an awakening to a reality we have been programmed to believe since birth. Babylon is the world we live in today, there is nothing ancient about it. it is a world of control that has been pulled over our eyes.
there are some other details included to help the verse flow, but ultimately, we see a battle begin to form between a new perception of the world with their previous beliefs and attitudes of this world.

Wake Up America! See the TRUTH!

General Commentfrom what i can tell, (from an admittedly brief perusal of their song lyrics) this song is alone, or nearly so, in showing a higher consciousness (comprehension of God) among their music

they are obviously very intelligent and so have the basic understanding that you mentioned, along with a very vague remnant of christian ideology - it's a good start, perhaps they will develop those two ideas further and come to some solid truth, rather than just a realization of lies

General Commenthow is their other music in any way "a realization of lies"???? You don't have to rap about theology in great detail in order to rap intelligently and with purpose.

    first google hit ;)

i would just like to say that having listened to their music a lot heavier, i take back the 'vague remnant' comment, and im at the point of calling them the most talented, truthful, and uncorrupted group i've ever heard - this song's vision is also particularly echoed by songs like 13th floor (growing old), liberation, millenium, mainstream, etc etc etc. and generally in all their music, it's amazing

Song MeaningAs things deteriorate in this world, it doesn't help that my girlfriend is playing games with me. When I speak to her from the heart, I get shut down and a bonafied n*gga like myself cant even get no backrub these days. like in the second verse...the sexual chemistry i have with her is amazing. it's the best medicine ever, but its "devilish. last verse, I always gotta worry abou my girl wandering around and everything.

To me this song describes my state of mind about the world, and how important my girlfriend is to me, even though she hurts me so.

General CommentThe Whore of Babylon is a figure in Christianity associated with the devil and evil. She is considered the mother of all prostitutes and I think that they use Babylon as the title very cleverly because it does tie right into what their overall message is. Basically from what I can take from the lyrics is that they are trying to keep faith in women but ultimately women make it extremely difficult for men to stay trustworthy of them. It's a brilliant song and looking back you can tell this was one of the songs on ATLiens that showed a sign of things to come on later Outkast LPs.
