It was a birthday gift of a Mexican telecaster
That from this day on I will play along
To all my Young Pioneers records
And there will be a poetry spoken silently
Between me and the stereo
I'll work mornings and you can work through the night

Mary, there is not hope for us
If this GM van don't make it across the state line
We might as well lay down and die
Because if Florida takes us
We're taking everyone down with us
Where we're coming from (yeah) will be the death us

And I cannot help but hold on to a handful of times
When what was spoken was a revolution in itself
And what we were doing was the only thing that mattered
And how good it felt to kill the memory of nights
Spent holding your shirt for the smell
I heard you used to cry when you made love to him
But this band will play on
Because all we can do is what we've always done
And on and on . . .

Mary, there is not hope for us
If this GM van don't make it across the state line
We might as well lay down and die
Because if Florida takes us
We're taking everyone down with us
Where we're coming from (yeah) will be the death us

Mary, there is not hope for us
If this GM van don't make it across the state line
We might as well lay down and die
Because if Florida takes us
We're taking everyone down with us
Where we're coming from (yeah) will be the death us

Woo!

Mary, there is not hope for us
If this GM van don't make it across the state line
We might as well lay down and die
Because if Florida takes us
We're taking everyone down with us
Where we're coming from (yeah) will be the death us

General Commentif you hear them play this song live (they typically end every show with it) it's unbelievable. For a few minutes in your life you become connected to dozens of total strangers and I swear that at that moment you have never felt like you belonged to anything so incredible.

General CommentWhat about it means nothing? What about it's just a story? What about it's just words put together more to sound good? What would be wrong with that? I mean, you all try to find a significance where there is obviously none. That song's fabulous because it sounds great, not because it means something that no one can get along on the meaning.

General CommentThis could quite possibly be the greatest song i've ever heard. Its like a punch in the face, but it doesn'y just hurt, it tickles. When i hear it i just want to scream and cry and laugh and smile and god, its just amazing. I can't even describe how listening to it makes me feel, and the song is even better live.
