I think it's perfectly clear
we're in the wrong band
Ginger is always sincere
just not to one man
she called me up and she said
you know that I'm drowning
it's the dog trainer again
he says that he thinks that she needs more hands

I think it's perfectly clear
we're in the wrong band
Senator let's be sincere
as much as we can
he called her up and he said
the new prosecutor soon will be wanting a word
so she's got a soft spot for heels and spurs
and there's something believin in her voice again
said there's something believin
instead of just leavin

And she gets her cigars from the sweet fat man
I think it's perfectly clear
we're in the wrong band
Heidi says she'll be sincere
as much as she can
I called her up and I said
you know that I'm drowning
put on your raincoat again
cause even the sun's got a price on it
and there's something believin in her voice again
said there's something believin in her voice
instead of just leavin

She said it's time I open my eyes
don't be afraid to open your eyes
maybe she's right
maybe she's right
maybe she's right
maybe she's right

General CommentAround 1982-1983 Tori played around Wahington D.C.
"I ran into hookers about this time and became friends with particularly one of them who finally had to leave because she felt her life was in danger because she was seeing somebody on the Hill, and she knew too much; and she fled to Japan because of a powerful warlord-she went to go be protected by him, and I never heard from her."
    -Tori Amos
-from the book Tori Amos All These Years, written/compiled by Kalen Rogers

This song supposedly is about that girl.

General CommentI read that she felt sorry for replacing Honey with The Wrong Band ("There were certain songs that were supposed to be on the record that got kicked off. 'Honey' was supposed to be on the record and, in retrospect, I wish it had been. I kicked it off for 'The Wrong Band'. Under the Pink wept when 'Honey' wasn't on, and she still is angry with me about it."). I really like Honey, but I think the abrupt feeling of hopelessness, despair and sudden realisation in The Wrong Band suits the album better.

General CommentHow do you get out of a bad situation? When the world is keeping you in a place you'd rather not be, what do you have to do to get out of it? Especially when "even the sun's got a price on it"
I was hoping someone had given their interpretation of this song....

General CommentI think this song is about the woman who the mayor is having an affair with. He buys her all of these things. She has a weakness for men with money. She beleives him when he says he loves her and subconsciously she knows it's not true. Either Tori is switching point of views in the song with herself and the woman, or the woman is pondering and arguing with her own inner voice. WHOA, I just realized that maybe "Heidi" is referring to Heidi Fleiss. Hmm? When I first heard this song I thought that "Ginger" was referring to the 'movie star' on Giligan's Island. Hehheh.

General CommentDoes anyone think that this song might be about Ginger Spice and the Spice Girls. I don't know when this song came out, but it was my first impression when I heard this song. Like I though she starts of with Gimger and the goes off on a tangent. The Wrong Band could just be a metaphor for something better.

General Commentwell god forbid Tori should write songs about the shitty spice girls! This song was written WAAAAY before anyone had ever been subjected to the torturous sounds of the spice girls.....
