"independent love song" as written by and Joe Youle Cheryl Parker....
You could say this was an independent love song
It's nothing like to us
What love meant to them
But that's not to say the love we had
Isn't big or that strong
I'm doing it a different way
I'm doing it a different way

You might say this is another boring love song
To be together and forever be true
And so today is much the same as it was then
I'm doing it a different way
I'm doing it a different way

I'll show you how to take me
Go down, go down
And I'll show you how to turn me
Right on, right on
And I'll show you how to touch me
Right on, right on, right on

Now I find that many men will look my way
And I'll take them and let them show me the way
And sure I like a few but I leave the rest to play
I'm doing it a different way
I'm doing it a different way

I'm gonna show you how to take me
Go down, go down
And I'll show you how to turn me
Right on, right on
And I'll show you how to touch me
Right on, right on, right on
Right on, right on, right on

In a different way, in a different way, in a different way
In a different way, in a different way, in a different way
In a different way, in a different way, in a different way

I'll show you how to take me
Go down, go down
And I'll show you how to turn me
Right on, right on
And I'll show you how to touch me
Right on, right on, right on
Right on, right on, right on

You could say this was an independent love song
It's nothing like to us
What love meant to them
But that's not to say the love we have
Isn't good or that strong
I'm doing it a different way
I'm doing it a different way

General CommentI think it's about lesbian love. It's a great song (I'm not gay if someone wonders).

General CommentI loved this song for it's chorus ever since I was a little girl and heard it in the trailer to Bed of Roses on my Little Women VHS :)

I don't think it's necessarily about lesbian love. She talks about being promiscuous with men. So maybe she is in a swinging relationship, or considers all these men she's with as loving relationships? haha Idk, but the music in this song gives me goosebumps at...

"I'll show you how to take me" etc :)

General CommentI thought the chorus was

I'll show you how to take me...go down,go down
I'll show you how to turn me...right on,right on
I'll show you how to touch me...right on etc

I could well be wrong, good song either way!

My InterpretationI thought it was a lesbian song in the beginning when I first heard it but after reading the lyrics I think different. Sounds like to me she lives a promiscuous/swinger lifestyle and she gets off on showing/teaching different lovers how to "love" her. Her "love" being more physical than emotional attachment, a "different way" than how symbolism of love is portrayed. Lesbian song? Hmmm...Unless a woman can magically sprout a real nub and "ride on" I think not. But then I can be wrong, I didn't write the song. Love this song BTW, the energy she has in the chorus is awesome.
