"Violin" as written by John Flansburgh and John Linnell....
Violin lin lin
Violin lin lin
Violin lin lin

Oh!

Violin lin lin
Violin lin lin
Violin lin lin

Ah

Hippo
Hippo
Hippo
Hippo
Hippo
Hippo
Hippo

Mop!

Mop
Mop
Mop, Mop!
Mop! Mop! Mop!
Mop! Mop! Mop!
Mop!

Speck of Dust dust dust
Speck of Dust dust dust
Speck of Dust dust dust
Huh

Speck of dust dust dust
Speck of dust dust dust
Speck of dust dust dust

Huh

one quarter of George Washington's head
one half of George Washington's head
three fourths of George Washington's head
All of George Washington's head
Oh!

Violin lin lin
Violin lin lin
Violin lin lin
Oh

Violin lin lin
Violin lin lin
Violin lin lin

General CommentI was at the zoo today with my kids. You'll never guess what song came up when we saw the hippos! They sang: Hippo...hippo...hippo...!" As a long time TMBG fan, I just had to smile!

General CommentThis song reminds me of a cartoon. I might have heard it in a cartoon or something, I dunno.

    Hilarious song, though.

General CommentI didn't even think of George Washington's head *being* on a quarter, I feel kind of silly.

Maybe it's just me, but I always used to make up words to instrumental songs when I was little (for example, theme music from nintendo games). So I could totally picture a little kid whose parents played them a lot of classical music coming up with lyrics like "violin lin lin" and "mop! mopmop! mopmop! mopmopmop! mooooooopppp!" just based on the sound of different musical phrases played on a violin.

General Commentif it were a reference just to the quarter it would be all of george washingtons head 4 times, hes also on the dollar bill.
When I hear that part of the song I always think of those magic tricks that involve making money appear/disappear

General CommentMy parents listened to classical music all the time but I never thought of making up lyrics. I guess my friends and I were too enamored with "Joy to the World, Barney's Dead" and "Jingle Bells, Batman Smells".
