The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
Turn it inside out so I can see
The part of you that's driftin over me
'Cause when I look you're never there
But when I sleep you're everywhere
You're everywhere
Tell me how I got this far
Tell me why you're here and who you are
'Cause everytime I look
You're never there
And everytime I sleep
You're always there
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes
It's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I recognized the way you make me feel
It's hard to think that you might not be real
I sense it now the water's getting deep
I try to wash the pain away from me
Away from me
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes
It's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I'm not alone
When I touch your hand
It's then I understand
The beauty lies within
It's now that we begin
You always light my way
Whenever comes a day
No matter where I go
I always feel you so
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes
It's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
You're everywhere to me
And when I catch my breath
It's you I breathe
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
And you're everyone I see,
So tell me, do you see me?
The part of you that's driftin over me
'Cause when I look you're never there
But when I sleep you're everywhere
You're everywhere
Tell me how I got this far
Tell me why you're here and who you are
'Cause everytime I look
You're never there
And everytime I sleep
You're always there
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes
It's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I recognized the way you make me feel
It's hard to think that you might not be real
I sense it now the water's getting deep
I try to wash the pain away from me
Away from me
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes
It's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
I'm not alone
When I touch your hand
It's then I understand
The beauty lies within
It's now that we begin
You always light my way
Whenever comes a day
No matter where I go
I always feel you so
'Cause you're everywhere to me
And when I close my eyes
It's you I see
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
You're everywhere to me
And when I catch my breath
It's you I breathe
You're everything I know
That makes me believe
I'm not alone
And you're everyone I see,
So tell me, do you see me?

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
why did they do this michelle branch song?
i never heard of yellowcard till warped tour a couple days ago....i think this song is awesome!! i like it better than the way michelle branch sings it
yellowcard is awesome plus they have a violin pleyer :)
i've never heard of them until i saw random lyrics posted on the side. I can't believe someone has already made a cover of a new song. No way. Posers.
I love this song it wis way better than the Miichelle Branch version
this song is for a compilation album called "punk goes pop," pinkslilrebellion. they are in no way posers.
Hey this song is totally kool. I hate Michelle Branch and I think that Yellowcard did an awesome job on this song. It's just so good. I think that this version is way better and I think that everyone would like this verson. It's said how Warren quit the band! sad! That's so gay. I didn't really like him anway. I really think that Ryan does a gr8 job at singing these lyrics. This song is totally kick ass. Yellowcard is awesome an they can make any song sound good like they did to this song. i think that the violin in this song really makes it sound like 100% better. In the begining instrumental part I think that it kinda sounds a little bit different from Michelle's gay verison! Punk rules! This song is so good all my friends are telling me to send it to them on IM since I DLed it on KaZaA! HeHe!:) ~aMbEr*
I stumbled upon this song on my playlist and the lines "I close my eyes and all I see is you" hit me. Then I relistened to the song and it is quite outstandingly good
Yellowcard singing this song is the only way i'll listen to it. i agree with ActiveHero Bass.. they are far from being posers! ..:evoL
