In the violent silence
Of a dream within a dream
You fill my soul with beauty
You're my shiny man machine
I'm sinking in the roses
Falling down to fade away
The velvet blade of apathy
Makes the crush so bittersweet

(CHORUS)
And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god
And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god

Your presence is the morning
Your absence is the night
I'm searching your dark hallways
Trying to find the light
Swimming your sad ocean
I'm drowning in your sea
This will all be over soon
And we'll learn to live again

(CHORUS)
And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god
And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god

In the evening stars I see your eyes
I hear you speak to me
I miss you now so much it aches
So broken so afraid

(CHORUS)
And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god
And I, I could have died last night
But I heard the voice of a smaller god

General CommentThis song is awesome, its made for the game "Vampire - The Masquerade Bloodlines" at the end, and ill assume the "smaller god" is the person him/herself in their new life or the bloodline of their clan in a metephoric sence.

Then again, it could be the antiveluvian(sp?) in the coffin you have to stop waking >

General CommentIt wasn't made for the game, it's featured in their 'parlour' album. And it's not at the end either, the end track is 'swamped'.

General CommentSo is the 'smaller god' a vampire who turned her over? This song is pretty good, but weird too... "shiny man machine" - what is that all about?

General CommentI love this song SO much. It definitely has some vampire vibes. The song sounds like it's written from the perspective of a girl who's been completely enchanted by a mysterious vampire. I don't want to say it reminds me of Twilight (since I can't say I'm a fan), but this wreaks of Bella Swan (ex: "Your presence is the morning/your absence is the night"). It kind of reminds me of New Moon.
I STILL love it though. Thank you Angel. If it weren't for that awesome theme song, I would have never discovered this band.

My InterpretationFirst verse sounds like a woman describing masturbation with a "shiny" vibrator. Everything else could also fit until the third verse - you obviously cannot look into the eyes of a vibrator. Maybe she's talking about a human love interest at this point. So the song shifts from fighting depression by masturbation to dreams about an actual person.

Whatcha think? Is my interpretation pervy enough to be true?

General CommentFirst of all, this song existed before Vampire: The Masqurade... so no, it was not written for it, or with vampires in mind. I would assume it is actually about an abusive relationship the lyricist went through... which is what I came here to check. Now, Secondly, the CD "Music from the succubus club" is a compilation of songs that go well with various clans. This one is associated with Toreador clan... the ones who really use/abuse the dominate ability. If someone were to dominate you and make you completely submit to them psychicly... they would seem to be a smaller God. So it was still not so mich about vampires, as much as it was about the dominate ability. With that out of the way, I really wish that there was something here on the actual/original meaning of the lyrics... it is a shame there is nothing but peiple who have no idea what they are talking about going on about vampires. lol

General CommentThe smaller god in the context of the game is most likely to be Caine, whom it is hinted at is pulling the strings of the cities vampire population from behind the scene to some unknowable end.
