"Promises Broken" as written by and Daniel David/perlman Murphy....
Streets are filled with broken glass
You get buried by the past
N give me just a little taste
Lay this mast to waste
Take me home

My mind is racing take me home
My body's aching so alone
I'll make you want to stay with me
Befriended by the enemy
One more time

And every little thing about this tells me
Nothing out there is ever gonna help me
All these words that I have spoken
Just promises broken now

Lookin' outside from my window sill
Throw another coin in the wishing well
Never find what your lookin' for

Fifteen miles
You took my chance
From so far away
You said smile
S'all I see when I say

And every little thing about this tells me
Nothing out there is ever gonna help me
All these words that I have spoken
Just promises broken now

From the hotel satellite
Don't look like you're livin' right
Here's a deal you can't refuse
You ain't got as much to lose

Can you tell your troubles to
Someone who won't laugh at you
It's all right

As I watch you walk away
Hope a part of you will stay
But it's all right

And every little thing about this tells me
Nothing out there is ever gonna help me
All these words that I have spoken
Just promises broken now

General Commentsmall correction: "Your dim light shines from so far away" is what Dave sings and what is written in the album's book.

You're right, Dan Murphy co-wrote this song but Dave sings it anyway and Dan does the backing vocals as usual.

I love the lyric "as I watched you walk away, I hoped a part of you would stay".
It's a game-with-words (one of many) where he changes the usual expression "a part of me hoped you'd stay". Great music too!

General CommentThe part where it says "you took my chance from so far away" should say "let your dime light shine from so far away"
This song is amazing, I think that it is about sobering up and realizing everything that you have done to the people around you, and how you can never mend some ties back together.

General CommentActually, this was the one song on the album that was written and sung by guitarist Dan Murphy. And it was inspired by being on the road missing his 5(?) year old son. Thats right out of a Rolling Stone interview. Although the Lyrics were tailored to a relationship.
