"When I Say" as written by and Tom Evans....
What you are is what I see
What I see is what I want it to be
When I say I love you
What I mean is I really do

I'm not the one who'll give you everything you need
But what I mean is that I'll try
I can't deny that I've been burning inside
For all the things I'll never see

So come on, be yourself, nothing else
Who could ask for any more
And you know, they all love you
What is more, I really do

General CommentEasily the best recording of a Tom Evans song. It's an honest lyric about loving someone, about offering someone your best and making a commitment to try. The musicianship is impeccable, and builds like the very best Badfinger songs. Tom's lead vocal is beautifully subtle.

General CommentJust before I proposed to my wife, I used to listen to this song. It made me think that I may have a hard time making her realize all of her dreams. She could have found a rich guy but love was more important than $$. Now we've been married 10 years and things couldn't be any better...she's got everything she's always wanted (wink).

General CommentOne of the all time great rock & roll tragedies. This group had so much potential to be something really big, and mismanagement and record company nonsense literally destroyed two of the group's main members will to live. Such a shame. This is a beautiful song
