There are rumors going around,
you can feel history coming about,
you're never sure just where it's going to stay.
You suffer through lingering doubt,
you wish someone would spell it out
but things don't work that way.
There's so much going on faces in the crowd
belong to a team on which you'd love to play. You're hoping for some permanence
but there really is no place for this.
Your tattoos, they're gonna fade

Our youth like wax drips down,
in puddles around our legs
it hardens and catches us to the quick.
You're putting a lot of importance in
something you're just playing a part in,
you should take what action you can get.
What you're sure you're carving in stone
on your flesh
you'd do better living more and commemorating less. There's much i don't want to remember,
there's not a thing I'd wish last forever.
You're tattoos are gonna fade.

It's not as important to persevere as to doubt. When you're so angry nothing matters,
you be brave 'cause everything counts and
I'd never be so unsubtle
as to write this on my sleeve
unless I was sure I could change it
when I was ready to leave.
There's much I don't want to remember,
there's not a thing I would wish last forever --
or let me put this another way:
I know you're hoping for some permanence
but there really is no truth to this.
Your tattoos, they're gonna fade.

General CommentWorld/Inferno's call to arms. I can't count how many times I have heard this song start and had my mood change from bad to good by the second beat of the bass drum.

General Commenti agree one hundred percent. no matter what sort of a night or fight or mood i've just been in, by the second beat it all just goes away. so odd. call to arms, indeed.

General Commentthis is such a great song. they're all such great songs. okay, so what does it mean? here's my *amateur* interpretation: in your search for security and permanence, you fail to realize the fact that nothing is ever forever. Even when you try to lend it some immortality by commemorating it (with a tatoo) that itself will fade. me myself, i recognize the fact that nothing is forever, and i wouldnt want to commemorate anything if i couldn't change it later.
yeah, that's my summary. rock on.

General CommentI think that I agree with inferno midsummer's analysis, but has anyone thought that there may be a bit of correlation between this song, "Tattoos Fade", and the song "New Heart" by Terricloth's old band, "Sticks and Stones"? New Heart talks about the Queen of Hearts having several tattoos and the song was written about the newfound passion that the bandmembers had about Sticks and Stones, about making the band work. However, in time, they ended up breaking up, and perhaps Tattos Fade was about how that ended, and it doesn't last forever.

General CommentWow, Image, thats neat. :) I didn't know that. I'd LOVE to talk to them about their songwriting process (Or to Jack about ANYTHING).

Lol, ditto on Call to arms, indeed.

Hearing this song in album and live are two totally different experiences. For one, live is played about twice as fast as the album... First time I heard it I completely lost my mind. lol. Didn't find it again until the set was over...

General CommentThis song is about aging. Getting older. Most inferno songs tell a story. This tells the story of a punk who is having an issue with getting older.

General CommentI think this song basically means that everything is going to change eventually. Even a tattoo, which is permanent, will fade.

By the way....The Inferno is amazing, especially Jack. They've inspired me countless times....
