i get out of bed the same way every day
blurry eyed and waiting for the alarm to sing
sing me into fm radiapathy
numb and tired and perfect for the working day

i get home and turn the cable strobe light on
to tell me who i'm not and what my life still lacks
yeah if i could make a copy of myself, i might
so i could have twice as much of everything

come, it's time to wake up
know the way, you know the way

so i tell the world that it can kill its own
blow itself to smithereens for all i care
i will ride the wave into its smoking hole
i will be the vulture to its carriong

this song is great. i love the way the lyrics are so depressing and hopeless and the music is so contrasting. sometimes when i feel this way i listen to this song and it makes me feel energized and like its time for me to wake up

well you don't have to believe me but i know it is the ruth. i don't know Randy anymore but i did know him when we were freshmen in high school. we were both in the platinum sound marching band together at chaparral high school in temecula, ca. he played trombone and i played clarinet. do some research and you'll find out that it's true, you asshole! everyone has to come from somewhere.

actually, the song is very much tongue-in-cheek, and mainly discussing the shittiness of commercial radio these days.

What? Of course it is. The song expresses annoyance at all forms of media - calling the radio radiapathy means that it's not interesting and full of shit - and the cable strobe light reference is aimed at TV. The next line then shows that they are annoyed at the fact that the TV is focussed on materialism and dictates peoples lives.

I wonder, is the song about media, and if so, it doesn't seem like fight back. The song talks about radiapathy, and it seems to be how he lives his life; he gets up every day to the same old same old, and lives a life not happy or sad, but just.. Blah. Empty. Apathetic to what's going on, to what he has and what life offers him, and even still he said he would clone himself to have more?

I don't know if it's a rebuff to the media's 'shittiness' because the last verse talks about how the world can be blown to bits, and he wouldn't care.. So it's not exactly suggesting he cares that commerical radio is 'shitty'? Does being "a vulture to his carrion" mean he eats whatever 'food' is around? Vulture and carrion aren't exactly words with good connotations.

But, the song is kind of strangely hopeful. I always see "come on, it's time to wake up" as a way of him trying to shake himself from his apathy.

I don't know if I'm right, but that's how I see it. I always get goosebumps on "I will be the vulture to its carrion". Must be the slight voice distortion.

    It's carrion, not carriong.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.
