"Empty" as written by Dolores Mary O'riordan and Noel Hogan....
Something has left my life
And I don't know where it went to
Somebody caused me strife
And it's not what I was seeking.
Didn't you see me, didn't you hear me
Didn't you see me standing there
Why did you turn out the lights
Did you know that I was sleeping
Say a prayer for me
Help me to feel the strength I did
My identity has been taken
Is my heart breaking on me
All my plans fell though my hands
They fell
Though my hands on me
All my dreams, it suddenly seems
Empty

General CommentFor the theme of the cd, believe she just got out of a seriously realationship. She's sitting thinking to herself. How she had this fairy tale bright sunny cheerie relationship in mind. The music even sound happy and it reminds me of her playing an old time movie in her mind about the way things were, or atleast how she precieved it. Then it goes into the lyrics and she is slowly realizing he's gone. This persong caused me strife and it's not what i had in pictured in my mind. How could you be so blind to my emotions? "didn't you see me? didn't you hear me? didn't you see me standing there?!" Why did you end it? Didn't you know that I was comferteble with things? Now that I don't have you could you give wish me some type of strength. How can I identefy who I am without you? (a feeling a think i lot of people can relate to) and now... that picture perfect movie I had is gone. I'm alone. I'm empty.
    I love this song.

General CommentEven though the song may not have been written about death, I think it's written about loss. This song always makes me think of my mother passing away when I was 15. The first verse reminds me that she made me believe she was going to live a long time even though she knew she was dying. "Why did you turn out the lights, did you know that I was sleeping" reminds me that she passed away when I was away from home. "Say a prayer for me... Is my heart breaking on me" I still feel this verse resonating because I still mourn her and think of her quite often and it's 10 years later. As for my plans and my dreams, we had always had plans to go to Australia, and she wanted to be a grandmother, etc. I love this song, even though it makes me sad every time I hear it.

General Commentthis is pretty much a poster song for borderline personality disorder. whether it was intended to be or not. chronic emptiness is actually one of the criteria of diagnosis. especially the line of has my identity been taken- the main symptom of bpd is lack of an identity or extremely poor self-image. the lyrics could mean a million different things, and since everyone has mentioned most of the others, i figured i'd contribute this one.

General Commentwow.. i havent heard this song for a while.. but reading the lyrics again i have a new found meaning for it... i'm going through a fall out with my roommates right now which is just one disappointment of a whole chain of things going wrong in my life right now... i dont feel like im myself anymore... (my identity has it been taken/ is my hear breaking on me) and i just feel very empty. i love the way she sings emp-teeeeee - if you didnt kno the title, i think you'd have a hard time figuring out what she was saying...

General Commentcan't believe no ones commented on the music. Isn't that some of the most beautiful music you've ever heard? Never mind the lyrics, its those violins that make me cry every time.
