Daylight slipping away, down a mountainside
Over the trees and their lines
And I look out past your eyes
Through the windows I stare

As the fields half disappear
So much beauty out there
As the shadows reach for the bar
The place turns yellowish-like

And everything seems alright
Except that this is the last day I get to spend with you
And now it's dark and it's through
I should have been watching you

This is an amazing song :o) The lyrics are incredably sad and seem pretty straight forward. My take on the lyrics is that it was the last day two people had together and instead of looking into that persons eyes one of them looked past them and it turns to night and everythings over... and it's too late... and they should have watched that person instead of staring past them

This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard-gives me chills & not many songs do that. My take on this song has always been the viewpoint of a dad in retrospect watching his child frolic through the field, & as he's watching he slips into a daydream losing his attention for a moment & then his child is gone. Maybe this is a stretch but it's what makes the song so sweet to me. It can be interpreted in only as many ways as ones imagination can come up with.

One of the best lyrics ever, this song made me understand poetry. I picture a guy sitting in a bar with a girl he is staring out the window watching the sunset instead of paying attention to the girl he is sitting with. So simple and amazing, not much to debate here.

I see how this song can be interpreted in so many ways..its beautiful. I thinks a bit odd that me and tripper freak saw it almost the same.. i have a ypung 9 year old sisster and i imagined her outside in the mountains playing but after becoming distracted by the mountains/sunsets beauty i simply lost track of time and she somehow got in trouble (possibly even kid napped..) and i never saw her again. great song.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
